The SIG556 Russian (or SIG556R) has been long rumored, and is now official. It is chambered for 7.62x39mm, probably the single most famous Soviet cartridge of all time. It is built on the SIG556 Classic platform, and will accept standard AK-compatible magazines.

The two-position gas valve returns for the base model, as does the side-folding collapsible stock and the topmounted Picatinny optics rail.

To follow Sig's naming convention, I think I would have called it 762R instead of 556R...

I think that would've been a better overall name myself. If they wanted to go this route they should've left the 522 as a 556-22 or something.
