The SIG556 Russian (or SIG556R) has been long rumored, and is now official. It is chambered for 7.62x39mm, probably the single most famous Soviet cartridge of all time. It is built on the SIG556 Classic platform, and will accept standard AK-compatible magazines. The two-position gas valve returns for the base model, as does the side-folding collapsible stock and the topmounted Picatinny optics rail.  Operating system: Gas piston, rotating bolt Caliber: 7.62 x 39mm Stock: Folding / telescopic Forend: Polymer Upper receiver: Steel, Nitron® finish Lower: 7075-T6 aluminum, Hard coat anodized Barrel length & twist: 16”; 1 in 9.5” Magazine: AK-type, 30rd Length overall: 36.1”; 34.6” collapsed |

To follow Sig's naming convention, I think I would have called it 762R instead of 556R...
