Polished barrel hood on my p938

there was a post a week or so about it, ive pretty much done this with all my pistols present and past, guess i prefer the contrast look of bare metal to black steel. its a pain to do on this gun with the hardcoated finish on the barrel. It doesnt come off with standard methods that you might use for blued surfaces. I have only done the hood, both sides, top and the bevels. I should of taken some pics during the process but will explain best i can. not really for the faint hearted. None of this affects lockup as the barrel doesnt lock against any of those surfaces i touched. I used a flat diamond hone, fine, to basically grind off the factory coating. nothing i had tried prior touched it. hard stuff. the first thing i noticed as i got close to having it all off was the sort of rough machining marks and swirls that were in the metal. lucky though none were very deep in the metal and i took it down to where a few were just visable and finished by lapping the surfaces over a 1000 grit wet or dry paper. after that i hit it with red compound on the buffer. I love the look and now im thinking about getting a ss trigger to match for a sort of 2 tone mix. anyway heres a pic!

thanks, i coat it with mpro7, wiped off as it rides iwb and collects plenty of dust as it is. bought this second hand and asking sig about any recalls build date and the like was informed that this wasnt a gun they would cover under warrenty. so without that reason to leave well enough alone im free to modify this to my hearts content :)

as far as rust, ive not had issue with any polished steel part that recieves a modicum of care. its my ccw, its wiped down blown off and kept as well lubed as can be. Its with me always. so not likely to forget to wipe it down with a silicon rag now and then, usually a few times a week. constantly chasing away the dust bunnies.

I can tell you from experience with two used Sigs.
If the problem is a Sig problem. Sig will cover it new or used.
They put a new barrel in my several year old Ce revolution 1911.
They also changed the extractor in a 8/12 938.

Sig says changes will void the warranty, but if it does not effect the problem, they will fix it.
Sig stands by their guns.
I own 6 Sigs now, because of how service took care of me.

There have been reports of people taking too much off.

I had Sig bead blast a slide from nitron to stainless, and they took the top of the hood stainless as well. Left the side nitron, so I did that as well, leaving the lettering nitron
