Off to the range with a new P938 Extreme. Is there an official recommendation on a preferred round? My plans are to put 500 rounds of FMJ through it before trying self defense rounds.

advice from P938 owners please.

whatever you can get at the most reasonable price that doesnt have feed issues. so far I have had good luck with Cabela's Herters brass (it was on sale for 9.99 per 50 a few days ago) and Fiocchi shooting dynamics 115 gr for around 11.00 per 50. I have shot probably 1,000 rounds between the 2 brands and haven't had the 1st problem with the 2 brands in my mk25.

overall, mine seems to like 124 grain over 115. presumably the heavier round raises pressure, and racks the slide back harder, and the return has the energy to feed the rounds better

I also carry Federal HST 124gr, standard pressure. For practice I like 124 gr Blazer Brass.
Haven't had any problems with either. Recently bought some 147gr HS to try but haven't had a chance to shoot them yet. Early 938's had feeding problems usually because of rough feed ramps, so Sig was recommending 124 gr. Once Sig polished the feed ramp on my first 938, it fed everything including DPX 90 gr and any 115gr I tried. I know have a newer 938 SAS which had one failure to extract in the first mag., no problems since. (Remember to check the guide rod when you clean the gun, they tend to eventually unscrew).

I like and carry Win ranger T in both my HK40 and my Sig938.

i have tried many round of 124 135 and 147 grain bullets in mine and currently use the hornady 147`s due to better penetration in winter coat season. works fine with all 124 grain and up that ive tried. i dont mind practicing with 115gr ammo but dont like it for a sd load as i think generally the 938 prefers heavier bullets.

Okay, got another question... I went to the local Walmart today to buy some ammo for target practice. I picked up a box of Winchester 9mm NATO 124 gr. when I went to pay for it at the gun counter, the guy working there said the NATO rounds were for rifles... I'm new to handguns, but I think he was up in the night. Can someone please tell me the difference between NATO and Luger? I'm confused..

:DNew to the forum. Just got my P938 SAS. Great shooting pocket pistol. Accurate at 7.5 - 15 yards for most shots but I need some range time with that small frame. Put 150 rounds through at the range yesterday. Winchester 115 gr and Blazer Brass 115 gr. No problems. Shot 2 mags of Hornaday Critical Defense 115 gr. 1st mag of CD, 2nd or 3rd round had 1 FTE. None after that. Read posts and I see that the Hornaday might be an issue for the P938. Found a great link and video by Ammo Quest testing a P938 (convenient) for 9mm self defense ammo ballistic tests on pocket pistols. This is the link to the final and the Federal HST 124 gr standard pressure was the winner.

Bought 124 gr Blazer Brass and 124 gr Remmington UMC to shoot tomorrow (since they were available and lower cost). Plan to order some Speer Lawman 124 gr standard pressure for the range. I have used Hornaday CD 115 gr in my 9mm S&W Shield. never had a problem. Will be trying the Federal HST 124 gr tomorrow if I can find it locally. If it feeds with no problems I plan to use that for carry in both guns.

BING-effin'-O! This is the stuff to use, but good-luck finding it locally...at least not without grabbing your ankles like the showers at Oz. The word's out, so I'd put an order in online or if out, sign-up for email notifications when it's back is stock...and don't waste too much time clicking, "Add to Cart," as it goes pretty fast.

I see several new members within the last bunch of posts...welcome to Sigtalk from Florida. I don't know how you all got here, but this is one of the best forums in the interwebs, and definitely worth the cost of signing-up!

I have several thousand rounds through my 938.
I would guess 99% has been 115gr FMJ of many different makes as well as reloads.
No problems in feeding, firing, or ejecting past the 200 round count (had a firing pin mushroom and jam. Sig promptly sent me a new one, no issues since)

Hmmm? This thread has me rethinking what to carry as a SD round. My new 938 Extreme just went through 200 rounds of 115gr, ball ammo (UMC, American Eagle), no issues except for one FTF when I tried to get an 8th round in the chamber. For some reason it preferred the simple 6 or 7 rd. mag without the manual loading of the extra round.
I bought a few boxes of Gold Dot Short Barrel (124gr. +P). I haven't tested them yet, but chose them based on past experience with short barrel 1911, and the great reviews it got. Hopefully the extra power and the JHP won't cause any issues.

You can fire limited amounts of +P through the P938, but I'd use it just enough to make sure the weapon cycles it with no problems, then just load it for SD only. Occasionally you might fire-out the carry mag of the +P to freshen it up, but it's not recommended for prolonged use in these tiny weapons. Train with the 124 regular pressure, but not the +P as it will really pack a wallop and (IMHO) shorten the life of the weapon in general, and the springs in particular. Also, if you like your warranty, I'd leave the +P ammo our little secret, as you may run into warranty issues if you admit to using it to Sig CS. IIRC, unless things have changed, the HST 124 normal pressure is about as good as it gets for consistent flowering and penetration (even through 4 layers of denim), and the difference in the +P and +P+ loads, even in 147 grain, are negligible.

I carry Federal HST 9mm 147gr +P LE P9HST4 which is very hard to find. This and .357 Sig Gold Dot were the only loads to pass Texas DPS (highway patrol) tests a few years back. At that time they selected the .357 Sig. Since then bean counters tried to force S&W 9's down their throats that were faulty and they went back to the Sig pistols, not sure what the latest in this story is.

Anyway, here is the AmmoQuest test of Federal HST 9mm 147gr +P LE P9HST4 in a P938.

I just put about 50 rounds of Federal Aluminum 115 through mine. One pretty decent fail to eject/jam and another hangup up Fail to Feed.

It was less than ten bucks for 50 at wally world so I had to give it a shot. I'll be feeding that to the Rock Island from here on out.
