P938 Back from CS

My P938 made it back today!! Yay!! About a week or so, considering the massive snow storm that hit that area right after I shipped it. They show rec'd on Jan 29, bck to me on Feb 3. Good going Sig CS, as far as I'm concerned.

I sent it back to Sig after the hammer followed the slide into battery a few times. Well, 5 to be exact. Gunsmith comments:
  1. Inspected Pistol
  2. Upgraded the mag catch
  3. Replaced the sear
  4. Test fired hollow point and ball with range mags, no malfunctions.

Awesome. Now, tho', comes the real test. I had it do 5 follows in less than 500 rounds. But most of those came in the 300 - 400 count. I doubt they would put thru enough rounds to actually check the pistol that thoroughly. What would you think they'd put thru it - up to 50 maybe? More like 10 - 20 for a function check? Either way, glad to have it back. The mag release is definitely stiffer and a bit harder to push/release a mag.

Just for grins, here's a pic of the pistola with the Raasco grips that came in while it was on vacation to Exeter.

Let me speculate...

What does the sear do? It seems to be replaced a lot with the malfunction of the hammer riding forward instead of cocking.......................Do sears wear fast? Get damaged? or just out of speck?
Mines do in tomorrow.
The sear drops into the SA notch on the hammer when the slide cycles back and holds the hammer in the cocked position until the trigger is pulled again. There have been a number of reports here on ST of the hammer following (riding) the slide as it goes back into battery. That's because the sear isn't catching and holding in the SA notch. Some of the affected pistols are new/low round count so I doubt the issue is wear. My guess is that there is an out of spec issue with some of the sears. This seems to have started with early 2015 production units, again based on the reports here.
What did they Upgrade the Mag Catch to ??
Mine was replaced due to the mag drop issue. As best I can tell, the "upgrade" is a stronger/stiffer spring in the mag catch assembly which holds the mag more tightly. The upgraded mag catch takes a bit more finger pressure to release the mag but the mags don't drop anymore.

Is that a real Sig sear or a Sears sear. (lets see who gets b@stardized misquote)

Thanks,
My Gunsmith comments are:
Upgraded the mag catch.
Replaced the extractor.

What does the extractor have to do with the hammer riding forward?
Kind of interesting AND confusing at the same time. Same issue, two different "fixes".

BTW, my mag release is now SO HARD to push it really kinda p*sses me off. Before the "fix" it was a nice, firm push to release. Now it takes a concerted effort. Guess I'll get used to it, and maybe it'll loosen up over time. But I've got to wonder what the mag release has to do with the hammer following the slide. TF - got an idea on that one?

My assumption is that they replaced it with something that is supposed to be better. If my mags don't pop out I'm good with it. I did try forcing just a little harder and had no issues just before I sent it off.

I always take a peek to see if the button pops up when I insert a mag.......maybe a bad habit forming, but I don't carry a spare mag anyways.
