P320 Compact .45 FCU in a 9MM Sub Compact Conversion Kit?

There is some controversy as to whether the FCU in a P320 .45 compact will work in a P320 9MM sub compact conversion kit. The Sig rep I spoke to said they are NOT compatible.

I have a P320 .45 compact and the FCU does fit in my P320 9MM sub compact conversion kit. It loads and ejects 9MM cartridges perfectly but I'm hesitant to fire it based on what Sig told me. Has anyone tried this and if so, with what results?

Does this mean the .45 FCU is downward compatible with the full, carry, compact and sub compact frames and 9MM, 40 S&W, and .357 sig conversion kits? Sig says no but my experiment indicates otherwise.

I'll have to check mine and see. I suspect the issue will be the proper operation of the magazine takedown safety.

I know I cannot fit a 45 magazine into a smaller caliber FCU because the 45 mag is 0.15" longer than the smaller caliber mags and comes up against the safety tab.

My suspicion now is that the smaller mags WILL fit into a 45 FCU, but will be too short for the mag safety to function as it was designed to do.

For liability reasons, SIG cannot encourage owners to do that.

Follow Up

Just a followup to my original post.

I took my P320C .45, P320F 40 S&W and P320CP 9mm to the range yesterday. I installed the .45 FCU in both the F and CP pistols and fired 50+ rounds through each. The .45 FCU fed, fired and ejected the .40 S&W and 9mm ammo without any problems. It appears I've answered my own question. the .45 FCU is downward compatible with the smaller calibers.
condition1blog and SMT like this.

Good to know! Did all the safely mechanisms still work? For example, did it still prevent you from rotating the take-down lever down with a mag in the grip?

Since I just bought a P320 45 I might sell my 9-357-40 FCU and keep everything else for my P320 9mm
