I do however have first hand knowledge of checkmate mags fitting poorly.
As do I, no argument from me

So why didn't you tell him you were having failures to feed? Sounds like he would have handled it differently had it been more than cosmetic. Squeaky wheel gets the oil!

I agree I would have probably said I was getting FTF. Yes it's wrong to lie but it is also wrong to stick your customers with defective mags! They are defective, that base plate is obviously designed to fit into the grip of the gun intricately and that checkmate clearly does not.

17 round mags USA vs Italy.....one longer? See pics

Yeah I thought I'd give Sig the benefit of the doubt to make good but they didn't.

I looked at a full size P320 tonight at a LGS. Mag looked good, thought for sure it was an Italian one....nope it was a Checkmate....but it looked different than my Checkmates

The hole that is near the magazine notch was placed in the same location as the Mec-Gars

In this pic the Checkmate is on the left has the hole near the catch whereas the hole on the Mec-Gar is higher up on the mag. The Checkmate in the P320 at the LGS looked like the Italian mag on the right with the hole higher. It was interesting to see the Checkmate mags look so different

Fwiw the Checkmates do push up a fraction if you push the mag release button then snap in when you let them go. The Mec-Gars don't do this...no upward movement

Anyways I bought an Italian mag tonight so I have 2 good ones now. I'll ask the Pro Shop next time I'm there but I'm slowing my roll a bit. They may tell me to go pound sand as well

They will probably show up in guns for the commercial market as well.
For example, Mec-Gar does not sell (due to contractual obligations with SIG) the P226 15-round 9mm mag packaged as a "Mec-Gar" magazine. You can only buy the P226 15-round 9mm mag from SIG and it might say "Made In Italy" on the magazine but will come in a SIG Sauer package...with a higher price. Mec-Gar was able to get around that by making some simple modifications and getting an 18-round mag in the same space as the factory 15-round mag.

They may have some contractual obligation with SIG on the P320 that says they can't make ANY magazines for the P320 and sell them under their name. Or we might see some slightly altered version that allows a couple more rounds in the same space at some point.

Who knows?

I wonder if SIG is starting to crack down on what they consider "cosmetic" because of so many guns coming back with screwed up finishes, screwed up machining, etc. They lose money on all those returns for "cosmetic" issues and rather than improving their damned QC/QA, they say "tough ****".

That's just like the P229-1 9mm mags the only one mec-Gar sells under their name has the plus 2 bases. It's total BS! If Sigs gonna mandate that in a supplier contract they shouldn't screw all of us by not making the Italian mags available at least under the Sig name! I personally won't buy any Sig branded mag without verification that it's Italian. When I talked to the guys at Top Gun they told me, "they have no way of knowing what Sig will send them". I was actually thinking about a p320 but that's changed now! I refuse to buy another Sig and have to deal with hunting down Italian mags. I think I'm gonna go for a used one that I already have plenty of mags for or maybe that SS Colt Commander 45ACP I've been thinking about!

The rep says they offered the 18rd and 20rd mags BEFORE sig started using them as OEM, so that's the only way they are able to offer them under thier own brand.

At the Pro Shop now and Kevin took care of me. Swapped out for Checkmates but they fit perfect with no gap. They are different than the USA made ones that came with the gun. The top hole is in the same place as the Mec-Gars, not between the magazine catch

Kudos to the Pro Shop, thumbs down to Sig CS
