17 round mags USA vs Italy.....one longer? See pics

Picked up my P320 RX last night and noticed that the USA made mags that came with it don't sit flush.

I have the Carry frame for my Compact so I had gotten a 17 round mag for it some time ago. It is made in Italy. It fits more flush with gun

USA (Checkmate)

Italy (Mec-Gar)

My guess is it's just aesthetic and the Checkmates work fine......just odd??

Maybe this is something that's been discussed before and normal but any other folks with a full size or carry frame and USA mags have the same issue?

Most likely the notch for the magazine catches are in different spots. Can you post a pic of mags side by side showing those?

Tango this should be brought to Sigs attention. This same issue happened to me back in 2011 when I purchased my P226 extreme. The two mags that came with my gun would not seat flush and they too were made in USA Checkmate mags. Those mags hung down out of the magwell about 1/8". The 3rd mag I got on a special promo from the dealer was in separate retail packaging and was also checkmate but it seated flush. I called Sig and they sent me two new mags and told me to just throw the other two away. The new ones they sent were checkmate and seated flush. I still have those mags and never used them. A mag with an 1/8" of slop is BS! Good ole checkmate at it again! This is the one thing I hate about Sig! Why Sig continues to risk their reputation on those checkmate mags is totally beyond me.

Checkmate on left, Mec-Gar on right

It is very hard to tell but the notch on the Mec-Gar ones is slightly lower which makes sense as they do pull the mag up tighter

I dunno animal...think Sig will care or say it is what it is?

Any other FS owners notice this?

Maybe I'll give CS a call in the morning and see what they say

I just picked up a RX last night as well so I decided to do the same test you did. The 17 round "Italy" mags and 21 round "Italy" mags I have both sit flush, the 17 round "USA" mags that came with it don't fit as flush just like you noticed, although I don't think mine is as significant as yours.

Edit: It doesn't affect functionality I don't think, I put 100 rounds through each mag today without a hiccup.

Did you measure the mags? I'm curious to see what the actual dimensions are. My 226s if I remember correctly were longer overall and from slot to the top were the same. Either way Sig should stand behind the product. That gap is clearly not okay. I distinctly remember they didn't even question me and I was shocked they didn't even want the bad mags back. I had new ones in a few days. It must have been a known problem. If I were you I would at least ask for mec-gars in return. They will replace I'm sure but actually getting mec-gars may not happen.

I'm sorry but for what Sig charges for mags, this really tees me off! Compared to other duty sidearm manufacturers, Sig has had more than their share of mag problems. The problems have almost always been associated with checkmate! This isn't rocket science it's a freaking magazine for crying out loud. We shouldn't have to hassle with finding "the good Mec-Gar" mags every time we buy a new Sig. I swear the next time I go to buy a Sig if the mags it comes with aren't "made in Italy" I'll keep my money. End of rant.

The last 2 P320's I've bought have had USA mags, and I haven't even tried them, I just sell them to my roommate for $25/each. I agree though, sig should rectify this.

Animal they are the same height. I think the issue lies in the mag catch as bblr pointed out

What I'm thinking is even if Sig sends me new mags they more than likely will be Checkmates that have the same issue

The build date on this gun was 12/18 but who knows when mags were made. I'm sure thy come out of a bin

I know it's probably trivial but this would just ruffle my feathers

This happened with my PARA 1911 Black Ops. I sent off for some Wilson and they fit perfect. The ones that came with it were causing a lot of feed issues. The point is I did a lot of searching to find out what to do to correct it on my Para, and found out that this is a not so small a problem with a lot of different makes and models. It's like a standard answer when asking about feed problems..... Did you get some different mags?.......... Also when checking a mag fit check where it rides at the top of the mag well.

I'd call SIG. I would tell them you are having feeding issues (even if you aren't). It appears the mags are out of spec.

If you complain, I would say they will check the new ones before they send them out. I bet they already know but maybe not. Since it's so new they may not know yet. I'm sure back in 2011 when they had the 226 mag problems, a lot of inexperienced new Sig owners didn't catch it and still have those mags. Sig sure didn't give me any problems and the new mags they sent fit perfectly. Fortunately for me mec-Gar was selling the 226 mags aftermarket and I bought like 10 for $25 a piece. That's why I've never even used the checkmate mags, other than testing them.

You also have some good pics to email if CS wants to see the issue. Since the slots are out of spec and the overall length is apparently the same, this means the top round will be sitting lower in the gun and the slide will have less to grab while feeding. It may or may not cause issues but it definitely is not right. Keep us posted.
