Sub Compact Frame

This is a discussion on Sub Compact Frame within the P250 & P320 Modular Pistols forums, part of the SIG Sauer Pistols category; I have a P320C 9mm. I live in La La Land (California). Can I buy a sub compact frame for it?...

Not sure about La La Land...

I'm not intimately familiar with the exact laws of your fair state, but I think it's okay that you buy a grip module for your P320 Compact.

The users here call the polymer portion of the gun a "grip module." Inside it resides the Fire Control Unit (FCU), the guts of the gun with the trigger, that contains the serialized part that the government considers the actual firearm.

The slide portion contains the slide, barrel, guide rod, and recoil spring, etc... it's the upper portion of the gun and is metal.

If you want to put your compact FCU and slide on a Sub Compact grip module, that is done a lot. Several members here have done so with their pistols. Keep in mind you can get grip modules in small, medium, and large sizes and in black, olive, and flat dark earth colors.

I have done this with my Compact for my father in-law who loves his new pistol. He has a slightly longer sight radius, but a shorter grip which is easier to conceal. It's legal since the serialized part remains registered with the gubmit. There are many variations of "Frankensigs" out there where the gun is custom fit for the user in this way. It's what makes the modular P320 design so user friendly.

Good luck!

Yes, the slide / barrel assembly from a 9mm P320 compact will fit a P320 sub compact grip module (frame). You may have to get reduced capacity sub compact mag to replace the standard 12 round if California requires.

The pic shown is a compact slide on a subcompact grip module. It has the standard 12 round mag with pinky grip baseplate installed.

Be aware there is a gap between the slide and grip which partially exposes the recoil spring. It isn't a big problem but it can be fouled with debris especially if you pocket carry. If you look closely, you can see a piece of lint near the gap. I often pocket carry and have fished pieces of lint from the gun on several occasions. Just something to be aware of.
