I have all 3 sizes and prefer the compact. What caliber are you looking to select? That may make a difference in your choice.

I would get the Compact... much more versatile due to it's overall size. Shoots like a large pistol ergonomically, but small enough to conceal carry.

Get a compact. Then get a subcompact grip module and mag. Carry a fs mag as a spare

This. Get a P320c RX now, you can add the Romeo1 to the full sized X-5 if you want (or X-Carry if you prefer that).

Count me as the contrarian. I daily carry the full size in 9mm or .40, with a 9mm subcompact as my bug on the ankle.

It's funny, but I shoot both of those better than the compact or carry, as I have the exchange kit and grips for both. I am still a new shooter (less than a year), so I was tempted to blame good accuracy on the GG fat rod and spring in my full size pistols, but I shoot the subcompact just as well, for me anyway, without any modifications.

On days I wear slacks, I put the compact mag in the subcompact, and use my full size holster with no worries. I can state that I have never had a concealment issue with the full size. Yes, you have to pay attention, but the right holster does the trick, and I carry aiwb.

I will have to say Compact. But it's your gun and your decision. I am sure you will love what ever model you buy.

Hell Yea

I'm going with the minority too. I have a F and a SC. The key word in the OP's post was 'first' firearm. That being the case I recommend the full size. Perfect for home defense and the range and more than adequate as a daily CCW. If the OP already had one or the other it would be different but as a first firearm I think a full size is better than a compact or carry. YMMV.

Get a Carry, buy a compact frame and some of the compact mags. You will not be sorry, very versatile.

I can now carry 9mm, 357 Sig and .45. Just love the platform.

Now if only my X5 would show up!

My vote is Carry for your first.

ETA: I meant to say Compact...because that is what I bought and I'm happy. I always think "carry" because that is what I do with it...lol. You can't go wrong with either

<1/4" difference in the height is not that big of a deal for concealment and you get 2 rounds more.

The shorter sight distance on the Carry/Compact makes no difference if you go with the RX.

My vote (with your $$$) for your purpose: Carry RX

I have the full size R320X for the range and use a Glock 19 or a 225 A-1 for carry.

RX or not, I'm glad to see some more Carry votes rolling through.

There is no sight difference between the Compact & the Carry. They use the same same slide. Only when you go to the Subcompact is the sight picture shorter. Or of course between the Carry/compact and the FS.

I specifically chose the Compact because I thought a shorter grip would be easier to conceal. Turns out, double stacks in general are hard for me to conceal.
