P320/P250 Subcompact frame/compact slide?

Hello, I've looked and haven't been able to find this being addressed here, so, my apologies if it already has...

I've got a new P320 Compact. I'm toying with the idea of getting a subcompact grip frame for it. I know that Cabela's or someone ran a special setup of a full-size slide on a compact frame. I'd have to think a simliar thing could be done using a compact slide and subcompact frame? The rails are part of the fire control chassis, so that wouldn't be an issue. Would the front dust cover be long enough, or any other issues that would crop up?

Anyone done this?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum from Florida!

I'm not sure about all the different configurations of the P320, but there seems to be a lot of info on the Sig site citing compatibility. Someone will chime in more here as the day goes by, I'm sure.

This was a response from another forum:

Sig P250/P320 owners question - subcompact frame with compact slide?

Can it be done? Since the fire control assembly is the "gun", and houses the rails and all real mechanicals, could you run the subcompact frame with the compact slide assembly? Saw something similar done with a P250 awhile back - some sort of Cabela's special edition or whatnot that was a full-size slide running on a compact frame.

Thinking the subcompact frame and compact slide would be kinda slick - like the Glock guys who chop their 19s to accept 26 mags.

Can't get Sig to answer for the last couple of days through social media. May just have to give them a phone call, but has anyone here on INGO tried something like this?

Yep. I'm THAT guy.

If it'll physically work... Then you can use it.

Of those guns - the actual firearm is the metal sub-chassis that you insert into the polymer frames.

On my formerly owned P250 2Some, I'm pretty sure that the compact slide fit on the subcompact frame - but that's about it. I do not remember firing it in that condition at all.

If you have it available, op, mate the pieces up and really inspect how much frame rail will be available to the frame during full recoil - then remember that the frame will flex a bit.

If there's still a good amount of frame-rail security - fire it!

And take pictures.

I did the P320 Full size slide on the Compact frame mod and posted results here.

http://sigtalk.com/sig-sauer-pistols...ification.html

I would think the same would hold true and give you the same effect with a Compact Slide on a sub-compact frame.

Please post results of you end up doing it.

Yes the subcompact grip from a P250 Will fit fine, I've done this on my P320. I've fired 300 round so far and have had no problems. Did the same with the P250 in 45. The sub compact grips for the 250/320 come in a non rail version and a railed version.

Full dust cover coverage at the bottom of the slide around the recoil spring area, then?

There is a slight gap at the front edge of the dust cover, that is hardly noticeable but does cover the recoil spring. you have to look really close to see it. does not hinder function of gun in any way.

Hmm. Sounds like an area to allow excessive debris inside the frame?

Not really. If you wanted you could add a little bit of JB weld on the nose , I carry my P250c/with sub frame regularly and not had any excessive crud build up.

Limitless

There isn't much you can't do with other 250/320 systems. It is as new concept and Sig doesn't do a great job explaining the premise.

The P250 list has covered and done most if not all of these combinations. Other than 250 FCU with 320 slide and vice versa and smaller mag in larger gun it's all probably been done.

Check out the P250 list....
