Just Received NEW P320 17 Round Sig Sauer Magazine Made in USA
Just received this magazine today from Midway. I have 4 more ordered but they were shipped separately and should be here tomorrow. I am curious to see where they are made.
I did not know Sig was making Magazines in the USA. All my other magazines are made in Italy like the bottom magazine in the pictures. Even the box is marked "Made In Italy". Note the markings on the other side, the lettering is different also.
Anybody else have or seen Sig magazines marked "Made In USA?
UPDATE: The other 4 magazines arrived today and they are also "Made In USA". This magazine has been very hard if not impossible to find lately and are just now showing up in stock at several vendors. I wonder if the change in where they are made was/is the reason they have been in short supply.
So far the only difference I can find is in the spring, it appears to be one link shorter, I will post a picture of the difference later today.
All my other magazines are made in Italy also. These (17 round) have been out of stock at most vendors for several weeks. I purchased 3 from Brownells a couple weeks ago and they were Made in Italy, at the time they were the only vendor I could find that had them in stock. Midway has been out of stock for some time and they just recently came back in stock. I also notice that Top Gun supply now has these in stock also. They are also currently in stock at the Sig Store, they have also been out of stock there.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sig has changed where there mags are being made and this contributed to the shortage.
The only difference I can find between the new USA magazine and the older Italy magazines are the spring.
The top spring is the USA magazine and the bottom is the made in Italy magazine. I checked all of the USA made magazines and they all have the same spring. All of the older made in Italy have the same spring as the bottom.
The USA made springs do not have the last part of the spring that comes down on the last coil. ------ 11 coils vs 11-1/2 coils.
As you would expect I can't really tell any difference in resistance when I am putting them back together.
The followers are the same as the ones that came with the magazines I got with the P320 full size. The followers on the magazines I bought from Brownells are gray and the step where the slide catch lever engages are slightly different then the black ones.
SIG has purchased Italian Mecgar and US made Chrckmate mags for years. The original 320 mags were all Mecgar, the gun must be doing well enough tat they had to go to Checkmate to keep up
When I purchased my P320 Subcompact I ordered an extra magazine and it was a made in the USA one. Here are two reasons that the Italian one is better.
The USA Made one:
- Finish is not smooth, it is rough. The Italian made ones are very smooth.
- It does not fit 12 rounds even when using a TULA Mag loader. It only fits 11 rounds and cannot and I mean cannot take any more rounds, you cannot even compress it a half of round more. The Italian made magazines could be filled to 12 rounds all day long with your fingers. I can only get nine in without the magazine loader.
Personally I think everyone should look for and only buy the Italian ones. If I had know I wouldn't of bought the USA Made ones. It has functioned fine but it is frustrating that it isn't the same as the others.
My new full size 320 mags are made in the US. Both have a hard time getting the 17th round and cause the gun to be hard to rack the slide.. I only have 200 rounds thru it but plan on another 200 on Tues so I hope it gets better..
A number of people have reported that it is more difficult to load the US made Checkmate mags to full capacity than it is the Italian made Mec-Gar P320 mags.
All of my mags are US made and can be loaded to full capacity, but getting the last round in is a bit tricky. I use an Uplula mag loader.
:USA:I have a P320 Carry in .45 ACP that has American magazines. I’ve had no trouble with them. I just got another P320 Carry in .40 that has the Italian magazines. Haven’t been to the range yet, so I can’t speak to that. Personal quirk I suppose. But as long as it works, any magazine is a good magazine.
I have seven P Series Sigs. About 60% of my mags are Mec-Gar and 40% Checkmate.
I have no problem with which brand Sig sends me. However; if I am looking to buy magazines, I always look for Mec-Gar branded mags. They are about 20% cheaper than the exact same mags branded as Sig Sauer.
The 2 15 rounders that came with mine and the 2 17 rounders I got from Streichers last week were all made in Italy.
