P320 Sub Compact slide on a compact frame

I am kinda new, been lurking around and decided I should post something.

I purchased a P320 sub compact some time back to replace my Springfield XDS 4.0. I liked the XDS ok, but wanted a few more rounds onboard, and I hade the 4.0 and wanted a slightly shorter barrel, the 4 inch dug into my hip sometimes depending on carry position.

Anyway, bought the subcompact, love it. Carries nice, shoots nice, really like it. But, decided I wanted the compact grip for woods carry, range time, and some carry as well, just like the feel of the compact also, after looking at them in the store after I bought the subcompact.

So, I ordered the compact grip, and made a slight mod. Now, I have the subcompact slide and barrel on a compact frame. I know, should have bought the compact to start with, then bought the subcompact grip, but wanted the shorter slide compared to my old XDS 4.0.

So far, I really like this setup. My cut is not the most beautiful, but I think it is certainly good for my use.

Did the same thing with mine. It will shoot great. The full grip and 15rnd mags make it very nice. Just get a small file set out on some weekend and you can contour the end to match the slide angle nose line. I still give it a thumbs up.

I would like to do the same to my sc too, but I rather wait until I can order the Compact-Small with the latest slide lock in FDE.
Until then I am happy with the 15rd mag and extension.

Yeah, was hoping to get the new style frame myself. Maybe later I will do that.

Yep, plan to do some clean up and contouring as well soon.

While this is totally cool and demonstrates the modularity of the p320... I don't get it... Doesn't the longer grip of the compact make it harder to conceal as opposed to easier? It's like the opposite of the 4.0 the OP talks about. Longer grip / shorter barrel...

I say this as a xDS 3.3 CCW guy who is considering switching to the p320sc... And with respect

I didn't do it with plans to conceal the compact frame, necessarily. I will use the SC frame for that. I wanted the compact frame for a little added grip for use when OWB carry in the woods or just range time. Although, with the right clothes, the compact will still conceal fine.

Why not just use a 15 round mag with the adapter on the sub frame?

The non railed SC grip is a small. The grip adapter is the same profile as a medium. The grip adapters also slide around on the magazine. This is not an issue when they are in the gun, but might be if they are in your pocket. Then you look at the price of say 3 adapters and a new grip frame is not a lot more.

I prefer the medium grip size and I like the longer grip to get 3 fingers on it. The medium is also only .3" thicker over medium. The slide is usually what I have more trouble with sticking out vs the grip in CCW with some of my guns like my p226.

Adapters or chopping a grip, both will get the job done.

I solved this by using a couple thin pieces black electric tape where the adapter and base plate meet.

Thanks for your explanation. I understand your dilemma better now. I think you did a good job on the mod. It looks stock to me.

I like it.

Any issues with reliability?

How does it shoot?
