Hey all, new to the site, not new to firearms. I just picked up a P320 Compact, it was built in late June this year. I have noticed several spots in the frame have bumps or waviness. These waves or bumps run vertically and are in 3 different areas, with a total of at least 6 bumps and can be felt as high spots in the polymer if running your fingers over them.
Do others notice this too? Mine are on both sides just behind the takedown lever and on the right side near the front of the frame before it tapers at the end.
Looked at gun(compact) in very bright light. Wavy near take down lever. Does not appear as pronounce as what your picture seems to indicate. Sub compact also has a ripple but less pronounced then compact. Anyways that what is looks like to these old eyes. Had not noticed this before you brought it to our attention.
Here's a pic. Notice the lighter color marking just behind the takedown lever, it is a high spot in the polymer. There's two more up at the front under the slide serrations, they're a bit harder to see.
I've never seen one like that. I'd surmise it's a new method of plastic production or maybe just a new mold issue. No idea though. Likely just aesthetic issue, but worse comes to worse you drop the $50 for the new grip frame. Or send it to Sig and have them do it.
You have waviness like that behind the takedowns lever on the P250 and P320 frames below, as well as just behind the front of the trigger guard on the SPC-2009 and SP-2022 frames below.
You can also see waviness behind the takedown levers on pictures of P250/P320 Full, Carry, and Compact grip modules in the Sig Store; the waviness is most apparent on the pictures of FDE grips, but can also be seen on some pictures of ODG grips.
Yup, those pictures show the same thing. That's disappointing that Sig finishes the frames that way. I have M&P, Glock, XD, (in addition to non-polymer framed guns) and none are as poorly finished. I think I'll run by the LGS and see if theirs match up to mine and the pictures, if so, I'll let it go. If not, I'll call and ask them to swap frames.
Another thing to think about, if you're happy with the "medium" that comes with the gun, then I'd definitely want it replaced.
But if you were planning on downsizing (small) or upsizing (large), then I wouldn't fret about it. You can get modules for $35 dollars at a few online places.
I have two for my compact (medium and large), and neither have any blemishes.
Medium is good for me, I'll check the LGS and post my findings. It's not really a big deal, just don't want a blemished gun that I paid non-blemished price for if they're not all that way.
Just checked my FDE medium frame, and I can't find any "waves". I have the black frame also so I'll check it later. It's down in the shop in the box the FDE came in. It is an old style frame as is the FDE frame.
I have like 10 grips here. They all have very light signs of the lines you are looking at.
I have never really paid any attention to it and don't really plan on getting bent out of shape over it anytime soon.
Found some other pics out there that confirm a good deal of them have this characteristic. Also noted that every single one of these high spots corresponds to a cut out in the frame. I'm just guessing it's an anomaly of their molding process and likely so visible because of the lack of texture on the frame as compared to their competitors who all have textured frames.
One on my compacts has the same waves. Never noticed it until just now when I run my finger over it. It's almost impossible to see. But it doesn't affect the operation.
