Sig P220 Stainless Elite - Sights came off

Went to the range today and before I could shoot, my sights fell off. The guys at the range said they didn't have a Sig block that would be required to put the sights back on. New to Sig and not even close to someone who works on his own guns. Any need to find a specific gunsmith for Sig or should most good gunsmiths be able to re-install the sights?

Thanks!

Steve

stevez, to be honest, I'm not familiar with the Elites. The spring should go in the "Large Hole" behind the dovetail, as it is for the firing pin safety. The sight itself should have a setscrew that tightens into the dovetail, into the recess, and raises the sight to lock it into the dovetail. There should be another set screw, through the side of the sights dovetail, that locks the vertical set screw in place. I don't know if these are going to require hex wrenches, or not. If they do, they will be metric, as these sights are made in Italy, IIRC.
You will need to loosen these set screws enough to get the sight back into the dovetail.
Any reputable gunsmith should be able to do it, including yourself. The Owners manual should have a parts breakdown, to insure you didn't lose any parts, when the sight came off.

Call Sig Monday morning. They should repair it on their dime.

Thanks guys! I'll do both; pull the manual and make sure the parts are there. I will also call Sig on Monday although I don't want to fool with shipping a gun to have them fix it if not necessary. Appreciate the feedback.

stevez, that recess in the dovetail may be for the "Elevation Screw" instead of a set screw.
Look at the bottom of the sights dovetail, while raising the elevation of the sight. If that is what protrudes through the dovetail, then there is a chance it has a tapered dovetail, meaning one side is slightly wider than the other. Check your owners manual to see if that is mentioned. Normally Sig dovetails are wider on the left side of the slide, so it would be installed from the left if viewing from the rear

A couple of pics of the underside of the sight assembly would be interesting…maybe informative. I have no experience with this setup but would like to learn some.

Yeah, IMO SIG's adjustable rear target sights aren't their strongest component. I had to have our 220 MSE's loose rear sight replaced too. They asked for only the slide, and the new sight has been fine...

Cheers

I never heard of lpa sight; i'll try and take some better pictures tomorrow. I bought the gun new from a dealer in PA (a gentleman here told me about when I posted what I was looking for). The sights were on it when I received the gun new, so if not factory, not sure who would have put them on.
