P224 9mm DAK to DA/SA conversion

I'm interested in buying a P224 9mm DA/SA but there aren't many out there and the prices are a lot higher than the DAK models. Is it possible to convert a DAK to DA/SA on the p224? If so, where do I get the parts to do so?

If you buy the parts new, it's like $180 for everything. Usually it's not worth buying DAK and doing the conversion.

Arctic Sig, welcome to the forum from the southwest corner of Indiana.
It appears Major Tom, answered your question about "what" you need, as to where, you may need to check more than 1 place.
Of course Sig CS should be a prime source, although you will probably have to contact them by telephone to order the parts.
Top Gun Supply, is another possibility.
I was going to suggest Numrich/GunPartsCorp, but their pictures look to be DAK models.
Brownells and Midway appear to be a no-go, for anything other than magazines.
Midwest Gun Works doesn't list the majority of parts.

With Sig pulling the plug on the 224, if Sig doesn't have the parts, they may not be available. If your set on converting a DAK to DA/SA, I would insure I had "ALL" the parts I needed for conversion, before getting a DAK, or that's what you may be "stuck" with... Good Luck!!

Top Gun Supply is always my first stop when looking for SIG parts.

Some of the frames are not setup for the da/sa. There is an extra hole in the frame for the decock bearing plate. The plate has a small raised nib that helps lock it into the frame. Without the hole, the plate would set in there cockeyed.

I too have been looking for a p224 in .40. My problem is I'm the kind of guy who has to see ( handle) one before I let go of that much $$. I'm sure I can get my hands on a Beretta PX4 Storm sub compact - not a sig, but I'm sure a fine weapon, and a little cheaper.
Good Luck Artic Sig.

Interesting, I've never heard this before. I think you may be mistaken here, I know there is an issue going from SAO to DA/SA and vice versa, also, some of the older (pre 2005) frames will not convert from DA/SA to DAK. But never heard of a DAK not being able to go to DA/SA or DAO. My P224 DAK 40 would go to DA/SA with no problems at all.

The [possible] differences between the DAK and DA/SA - DAO frames are all on the trigger spring side of the frame, not the decocking mechanism side.

As tcfiero says, some DAK frames were made without the decocking lever bearing hole. So the gun could still be converted to DA/SA, but without machining a hole, there would be no way to decock the gun.

It's the actual hole where it fits through the frame. You wouldn't be able to install it at all.

Here's a pic of the frame and bearing showing the extra "nib" (red arrow). The pic is a P229 Carry but I believe it's the same as the P224:

I've never seen that setup. All my SIGs have just one hole for the bearing.

This is the only one I've ever seen. SIG Decocking Lever Bearing - P226, P228, P229, P239 - $9.95 - Top Gun Supply. It locks into the frame differently than your pic. TGS only lists that part. Pretty cool I'm still learning new stuff.
