Anyone have any experience with the SIG CPO program? Would be interested to hear from someone who purchased a CPO handgun. Have you been pleased with the gun, and how many mags came with the piece. The SIG website states one mag, but I've seen dealers list two mags with CPO guns.

My cousin has bought a CPO SP2022 9mm from a local shop here and it has been perfect. He then bought the same gun in a 40 S&W and it has been perfect. I'm sorry but I don't know for sure about the number of mags that came with it. I shot both of his and that is why I bought my SP2022 40.

Thanks Volz. I understand now that CPO's were sold with only one mag until about a year or so ago, when they began selling them with two. Hard to beat some of the prices I've seen.

I know what you mean Jeff...feel that way myself. The dealers I've had contact with say they don't get many CPO guns, and those they get don't hang around long.

Happened to run into a P226 CPO gun, 40 S&W, several years ago at the local Bass Pro and it was an excellent gun. Came with two 12 rd mags market 'Law Enforcement Only' so it was an "after the ban" gun.

I don't have any experience with the Sig CPO, but what I do know is that the new Sig's have the blue label on the grip and the Sig CPO's have the red label. I read in the Sig website the description of the CPO's and it sounds like you're buying a used gun with new internals. It's the next best thing to new.

This is from the Sig website:

"The legendary SIG SAUER® quality is what law enforcement professionals around the world rely on When It Counts. The Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER pistols have been “Duty Tested” protecting communities across the country.

Traded in by law enforcement agencies for new SIG SAUER pistols, these pre-owned SIG SAUER pistols go through a stringent Factory Certification process. Each pistol is stripped, refitted with original factory parts where needed, cleaned, lubricated, function tested and hand-inspected by a SIG SAUER factory technician. That’s your guarantee of the legendary SIG SAUER quality.

• Each Factory Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER comes with a one-year warranty from SIG SAUER. Only the Factory Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER pistols carry a one-year warranty backed by SIG SAUER. Make sure the used Sig pistol you are purchasing is a Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER.

• Factory Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER pistols are packaged in a red SIG SAUER pistol case, tagged with our “STOP” tag and wrapped in plastic for protection. Also included in the case is an owner’s manual stamped “PRE-OWNED” in red, and a cable lock. You should also know that our Factory Certified Pre-Owned pistols ship with a red grip band identifying it as a Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER.

• Each Factory Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER pistol comes with 1 standard capacity magazine.

• The condition of a Factory Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER pistol will vary depending on the amount of wear, such as that caused by a holster or rings, and that condition will be reflected in the retail price. Please note that dings, holster and ring wear are not covered under the one-year factory warranty.

• To maintain the tolerances and performance standards of a SIG SAUER pistols, the hard anodize alloy frames are not re-anodized."

The only two drawbacks I've seen with the CPO program are timing and patience (due to the difficulty of finding what you want, when you can afford it). Unfortunately, these are two character traits that struggle with!

Easiest way to get a lead on a CPO gun is to ask your dealer to check with the Sig Rep and have him/her find out what is available.

Ah the joys of the Red box from Sig!

I picked this one up from TopGun Supply here in Chesterland, Ohio.... Okay I ordered it and they shipped it to my FFL.

If you're interested log on and click on the part that says "E-mail me when they're back in stock".

Tom is good people, I've bought ....a couple from him.

My first Sig is a P229 I bought through CPO and I love it, and it came with 2 12rd mags. Only downside was the cardboard box. But for 580+tax I keep the plastic box. I was wondering is there any way I can check the serial number and find out the exact model etc. I have.. and maybe the history prior to my ownership?

You can always try calling the Sig Sauer customer service. Several have tried and were successful in getting details about their guns.

CPOs are wonderful. My first Sig was a CPO 228. They are a terrific value.

Most commonly these are agency guns that are lightly used or unissued. Sometimes they are factory demos. Sig will not tell you your gun's history though--they keep it confidential.

I bought a 1911 used recently and was skeptical but couldnt resist the price. I drive 45 to The Sig Pro shop and had them look over the firearm. The rep at the pro shop couldnt believe the great shape it was in. I was also able to find out through CS that she was born just 11 months previously.

I used to be skeptical about used firearms. There are great deals to be had guys just be patient and do your research

[without looking up the records] I have either 5 or 6 CPOs. Two [P220's] were brand new guns. The others were in near new condition with only one showing any wear at all.

Bear in mind that those CPO guns are mostly from LE trade-ups and may not have ever been issued - which is exactly the case with the two new ones I got. Once Sig sells the gun - it's no longer "new" regardless if it's been shot or not.

What kind of price break do the CPO gear get you?

Sounds like a great way to get a SIG.

If you are not looking for pristine/mint, can't see how you can go wrong here. My brand new P226 already has all kinds of scuffs and scrapes on it after one training class yesterday getting knocked around by my carbine while I was carrying it during the course. Kind of like a new car, good to get the first scratch out of the way.

Yep. You can't use a car and keep it showroom new in appearance. Same for guns.

People who are worried about scratches on a combat pistol are probably the same people who don't swing a hammer full force because they don't want to scratch that either.

That being said, I baby my new competition pistol. I even wipe it down during a training session if it's got soot on the frame or slide to keep it pristine. My P226 TacOps doesn't get that treatment. The X-Five is a prom queen, the tacops is a biker chick. Doesn't matter if it's got a few scars, it still performs

The finish on the TacOps is really resilient though. I only have a slight wear mark on the trigger guard where the lock on the speed rig rubs when drawing. It's been banging against barricades, down in the gravel, it has 8000+ rounds through it. Still almost like new

I just got a CPO P229 SAS .40 in excellent condition. According to the CSA at Sig that I talked to last week it was born 10/2013. It came with just one mag and a cable lock. It looks like new, no scratches on the rails, frame, slide wherever. Only the front of the barrel got some slight marks from test firing at the factory. Night sights are bright and the accuracy is better than me. For $590.00 shipped it was a deal that I couldn't let go.
