I picked up a P227 full-size Nitron Thursday(6/20) at the SIG Pro Shop in Epping, NH. $849 with contrast sights. I was a little concerned getting one of the first off the assembly line, but in all honesty it's nothing but a P226 in .45, how can you messed that up.
I have a really busy weekend ahead of me, but who can let a new SIG sit in the box, especially a new model like the P227. That is why I found myself at the indoor range of my gun club(Pioneer in Dunbarton, NH) this morning at 0600.
What can I say about it, it's a SIG, enough said right there. I will admit because of the everything going on this weekend, I only had enough time to put 80 rounds through it. 30 rounds of American Eagle and 50 rounds of Lawman brand, both 230gr FMJ. Not a single issue, it was like shooting my 4 year old P226 - 9MM. The only prep work I did before going to the range was running a cleaning rod through it once or twice.
This is my first .45, so I have to say I did not know what to expect as far as recoil, but I can't say it felt much different than my 9MM. I'm no expert shooter, but this gun even in my hands hit the mark. At 7 yds. I was creating some nice ragged multi-hit holes. I would imagine in the hands of someone better then me it will prove to be even better.
The grips are large, but with the new one piece grips, I can't say any large then the Hogue two piece finger grips on my P226. I also have to say, I do have large hands, so it will be interesting to hear what other have to say.
The contrast sights were great, I'm use to night sights on my P226.
The only issue now is getting some extra magazines, but at least the gun comes with two. I spoke with customer service and currently all magazines are being used for production guns, they hope to have extra magazines to the public by the end of summer.
As far as getting the gun to the public, one issue, I'm told, was the Special Forces got the first order of 4,000 guns off the assembly line.
Hopefully the next time I get to use it, it won't have to be at 6 in the morning.
I'm no gun expert, but I think SIG has another winner and once they start developing other versions some serious competition for the P220.

Your officially the first person I have heard of anywhere that has one of these and is willing to talk about it. That by itself is pretty cool. It is definitely on my short list. I have heard rumors that these guns will accept P250 10rd 45 mags. Any truth to that? If so, I may know a place to find you some.

I love my 2 P220s, but I just don't see that big of a deal to two more rounds. Plus I actually like the grip on the single-stack P220. Don't get me wrong, choice is always a good thing so I'm glad they put them out if it makes people happy, I just don't see myself rushing to trade in my P220 for a P227....

Yes, on offering a 14 round mags
SIG does offer a 14 round magazine for the 227, or should I say 'will be offering' but for now, nothing. I'm not sure if they have even started making the 14 round yet. I know the 10 round are made in Italy, it's stamped right on them.
As far as the mags from the 250 fitting the 227, I haven't heard that. I would have hoped the guy at the Pro Shop would have mentioned that, although looking at the catalog the base of the 250 mag and the base of the 227 mags. are slightly different. Go figure.
Picked up another 200 rounds of .45 ammo this afternoon, at least I have no problem getting that, just have to put up the max. purchase limit.
