Sig SP2022 - How good is it?

I want a Sig but cannot spend a fortune right now. I've been eyeing the SP2022. It has a good price and it looks good and feels good in the hand. How good is it? Is it comparable in quality to other Sigs? Pros...cons...

I have one. Accurate as hell. More accurate than me. Great sig for the money with a DA/SA and decocker. Only downside is that finding after martket stuff for it like mags and grips are harder than the classic P line. But overall I freaking love mine. My first sig and hangdun

The 2022 was my first Sig also. They are good quality handguns that you expect from Sig Sauer. Like the other poster stated, there is nothing out there for them for customization. If you want a Sig and have a limited budget, the 2022 is for you. I have had mine for a couple of years now, 700 or so rounds through it with not one single hiccup. They shoot so easy, my 13 year old daughter loves to shoot it.

Approximately 2000 rounds through mine (.40) with no problems. Everybody that I shoot with love it too. Even the Glock guys have to shoot a mag or two through it before they go home.

Over a thousand (9mm) through mine and no malfunctions. It even piles up the spent brass in a convenient 2' x 2' area.

I got my 2022 in 9mm a few months ago from BigDeezGuns for $449 free shipping. It's my 2nd Sig and I love it. My other Sig is a P226 Equinox. I feel like they shoot similar to one another, caliber differences aside (9mm vs .40). The accuracy on the 2022 is every bit as good as my 226. I did need to buy the large grips from TopGunSupply though. That's my only complaint the large grips are molded off the old Sigpro grips and not the new grips, which I prefer the feel of.

As for magazines www.gregcotellc.com sells Mec-Gar mags for $30. My SP2022's factory magazine was a Mec-Gar so I can't see any trouble with the after market ones they make.

Great budget Sig. A lot of other great platforms out there in a similar price point (roughly). Think Glock, XD, M&P.

It all depends on what you want/like/can shoot.

The more I shoot it, the more I like it for what it is. I'm not a HUGE fan of a DA/SA pistol for home defense because of the first pull. Tough to do well when all is at peace on the range. Not sure how I or my wife will do if/when the chips aren't stacked in our favor.

I see a lot on the classified though. If you can wait, they will become more plentiful.

My 2 cents-Don't get stuck on a brand. Go to a local range or get together with some shooting buddies and shoot a handful of different pistols back to back. Take notes. Lather, rinse, repeat. Firearms are a very personal thing. I would love to have an XD. But, the back of the beavertail hits me right on the thumb-knuckle. Not comfortable for ME. I can shoot it well enough, but it wouldn't be my first choice only because of that beavertail.

Happy hunting/shooting and be safe.

He's right! Got my .40 S&W 2022 back in March and a month later bought a P250c, also in .40 Have just over 1100 rounds through both and NEVER had an issue with the 2022. It's a good pistol for the price. ymmv

Ha Ha, my .40 shoots the brass 10 or so feet straight out to the right, I think my extractor is working fine.

fairlanericky - I bought a 250 2 sum in 9mm first, then bought my 2022. I then traded the subcompact 9mm assembly for a compact .40 assembly.

I am now very happy with mine. Needed some tweaking from sig at first, but it is a very nice gun. Probably my second sweetest shooting gun behind my Walther PPQ M2 .40 cal.

They are always in stock around my parts too. In both .40 and 9mm, and for the price point, combined with ergonomics and the accuracy (once you get the correct sight picture down) I cannot recommend it highly enough to have in your collection.
