First welcome to the forum from ID

SP2022, the poor mans 226

Polymer frame, search on youtube for some torture videos

Shoots fine, low recoil, accurate, and less than half the price of a P226.

Great for practice, some carry them.

Have had no problems with mine, not many rounds, went shooting the day that I got it, very cold, couldn't load many rounds in the mags, fingers got stiff and cold, but the gun functioned fine, even with some heavy grease in it, think it was about 10-15 degrees, for about an hour.

I maintain that it is SIG's best kept secret. It's a great pistol at a great price.

You can find plenty of reviews by doing a search on this site or dive into YouTube. The sp2022 is bailable in both 9mm and 40 cal. In terms of size it probably compares closest to the p229. This weapon was Sigs first venture into "plastic" handguns. For Sig this model never really sold well. Many Sig lovers feel it is "not a real Sig." The model would probably have been discontinued a few years ago except for the fact that Sig fell into a contract to sell a large pile of them to the French Government. The contract required that Sig guarantee they would support the contract for twenty years - ergo the model name was changed to be the sp2022 (contract runs 2002 - 2022). This is the reason for the dumb name. Many people jump to the conclusion that the gun is a 22 cal weapon because of the name. Enough trivia. I bought a new 9mm sp2022 three years ago and I feel it is a great gun especially for the price. Keep in mind that finding accessories can be a challenge - holsters, magazines, grips. Sights are the same as regular "p" series models but the regular Sig sight pusher won't work on the sp2022 slide due to the unique shape of the slide. I ended up selling my sp2022 to my brother in law and bought a "real Sig" - a p226 Extreme.

I would have thought that the fact that it is manufactured by SIG would make it a REAL SIG.

I do love my P226ST, but I shoot my SP2022 more often and just as well.

The P320 is one of the best striker-fired guns I have ever shot, but the SP2022 still provides better overall utility for me.

Beyond being very good, the SP2022 also happens to be relatively inexpensive.

That's because it is a real SIG. It's a fantastic gun with an amazing trigger, great ergonomics and unbeatable price.

As you can see from the signature line, I have a 9mm, a .40 S&W, and a .357 Sig barrel for the .40.

Reliable, good feel, relatively inexpensive, and fun. What else do you need?

And it is a Sig!

My earlier comments about the sp2022 were not intended to be critical at all of the gun. My comments about "real Sigs" was intended as a warning for others - the sp2022 may get you hooked on Sigs.

Best $399 I have ever spent. I would sell my Walther's(PPX, PPS M1 & P99C) before I sell my SP2022. This is coming from a Walther Fanboy...

I just recently picked one up, based on its reputation as the hidden gem in Sig's lineup. Mine had the original SigPro grip on it when I got, which I didn't like, but I replaced it w/ the aftermarket "Sig Sauer" marked grip that has a more "E2-ish" texture. It's my only Sig w/out the SRT, but I still think it's a helluva value.
