I don't use that much grease on my uncle's Kimber Ultra Carry II. It really doesn't need that much. I apply grease with a q-tip and just make sure that all surfaces have been covered with a very thin layer. If I'm shooting a lot, then I might use more, but rarely have I had too. After putting two boxes through my 2022 in one range session, there wasn't any less Tetra Gun Grease on the rails than there was before I pulled the trigger.

Good thread, good information with pics! I tried the TW25 that came with my SP2022. Didn't like it too much. I spread it on the barrel, barrel hood and other metal/metal contact points. I think I put too much as it just got all over the place. Cleaned it off and used oil for most of the barrel/barrel hood contact points and the TW25 for the rails. Just a dab with a q-tip. After that, I put a drop of oil in the slide rails for more coverage. |

I followed Florks method for a while but found that grease requires more cleaning time and it attracts more dust. If you use grease, go with slide glide. Stuff smells like mobil 1 oil mixed with beef tallow; but unlike other stuff I tried, it stays put. I have since switched back to frog lube paste and liquid. I glop the paste along the rails using Florks method, then let a drop of the liquid run down the rail on top of the paste. Any excess frog lube are used to polish outside of gun, handcuffs, screw drivers, you name it. NY FINEST P226 DAO, P239 DAO |

Thank you so much. The Sig sight doesn't even mention using grease on the rails and its been a burning question that I have always had. I'm heading out right now to get me some grease luckily I have only put 100 rounds through my brand new Sig SP2022.

I had no idea you were supposed to put that much lube inside the gun. Great to know!

I am doubting that this is always the best course of action. While probably great in a controlled indoor range environment.... I am not sure out in the "field" its as good an idea. I just went through a 40 hr block of tactical handgun and vehicle engagement tactics training these last 4 days... and after applying Tetra Gun Grease, as shown in this thread, I found I had a thick grease "cement" with all the dirt from the field that had been mixed in. Can his be good for the gun.. Does all that abrasive dirt suspended in that grease turning it into a bit of a "dirt paste" As you can see its a very dirty/sandy environment. A USMC infantry Captain who was the shooter to my right, had a .40 S&W SiG p226. After a deployment to the sandbox, he claims that greasing the gun up like Flork reccomends creates more wear and tear and opportunities for malfunctions than just plain old gun oil. Thoughts??? | I watched a video somewhere on this forum regarding Lucas Red n Tacky grease. ~$7 @ your local auto store for a huge amount... then I went to a pharmacy and got some free syringes. Bam, grease to last me several lifetimes.

What about Plasti-lube for M-1A's? Works good on my M-1A and my M-1. Should work good on my Sigs. Anybody ever use the stuff? Nice and tacky like Lucas Red.

| Tactical shoot day
I have a tactical shoot day in May with my women's group. I will be using my Sig P938 and Walther Pk .380. I will probably be using 600 rounds or more over a 8 hour period. Could someone tell me if I need to use extra oil/grease beforehand? Also, wonder how many mags I will need for the P938? I have two now. Haven't been able to find any 7 round mags for it...geeze. Any advise for my first tactical shoot would be appreciated....

Well, Sigs love to be wet with oil and grease...as long as your guns aren't dripping and oozing of course. lol On the mags I have no idea but someone will answer that question with better knowledge of P938's and .380's. |

Great topic ! I've been using plastilube for years. I love the stuff, it never runs and in the heat here in AZ that's a plus! I have to agree grease on the slides is the only way to go. All my pistols are lubed that way. Zero FTF issues in 25 years.

| Grease on P938 and number of Mags
I've had some issues with my P938 on FTE an FTF's and used to use just an oiling on my handguns. But this subcompact has an issue with the slide hitting the top round in the mag, especially the 7 round extended mag. It recently jammed on me and is at sig for repair and possible a new extractor. I am going to use some grease on the slides and on the area that impacts the upcoming round when it comes back. I think light to moderate high temp grease on some areas makes a lot of sense and may help with this issue. As to the question about how many mags, I have found 3 to 4 of the extended 7 round mags to be sufficient when at defensive or tactical training. You will be firing a lot so the more mags the better. I have 6 and keep 2 with my primary defensive round and use the others for training. Remember to clean them occasionally and rotate them. Also, the mag spring in these mags is the strongest of any I have used so a mag loader like a lula is highly recommended. Thanks for the info on lubing. |

For decades I've been using various greases on the slides of my semiautos. I use a medium weight silicone base grease now. It starts out almost clear, so I can see when it's getting dirty. But, I think just about any grease will do the job FAR better than ANY 'gun oil'. For decades, people have been telling me I'm crazy, yet my aluminum framed pistols (well, ALL my pistols) are still nice and tight. Too much lubrication is WAY better than too little, in my book. |
