To understand the purpose, you really have to shoot one. Something about it is magical. I've never shot something as accurate. I can shoot groups the size of a quarter at 10 yards. I can't even do that with my SAO legion. I can't explain why but it's an amazing gun and my favorite of anything I own

The P239 is a superlative pistol. Keep in mind it was brought to market at a time when there were no single stack poly pistols that offered a full grip. It is also a top choice of those that prefer a metal frame hammer fired single stack pistol that is available in calibers other than just 9MM.

The P239, like the P226, has also been used by the SEALS for several years now as their more concealable pistol option.

.

I've got a P6 and a P239. The P239 is easier to conceal

The Point?

Shoot one. Carry one. Service one. Then you will know.

Agree 100%!!
Even down to the 226 Legion SAO statement. My 239(s) are the most accurate guns I have. For me that is. I have nice, target 1911's (and a 226 Legion SAO) that don't group as well, as the 239's.

P239 has a barrel length of 3.6". P6/P225/P229 have 3.9" barrel lengths. P225-A1 is basically the same size as a P225/P6 but with a 3.6" barrel length. Just by the measurements the P239 should be easier to conceal. For those of us that carry one, we know it is. So back to the OP's original question, that's why the P239 is preferred my many. That's what you were missing.

What's not to like. It's a 40s&w, .357 sig, 9mm with CT laser grips.

Think of the P225A1 as a P239 with a bit more (nice) gun rapped around it; nice but no more capacity and much less capability.

In operational terms, that's called "flexibility" and it's very desirable; the 239 scores high on that scale IMHO.

Thanks for the replies everybody! Again, I wasn't trying to disparage the P239, but I was genuinely curious what everyone's reasons for shooting/carrying it were. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot one, I've just held a few over the years in shops or at gun shows.

My comments about it being heavy/wide for a single stack carry gun comes from the fact that my everyday carry is a Kahr CM9. I feel like anything larger than the Kahr is "huge" on my 160-lb frame (which happens to belong to someone that isn't a fan of looser 'carry friendly' shirts).

Looks like a Milt Sparks VM2... I have the same setup with green Piranha G10s. Love those grips! The holster makes the P239 comfortable to wear and it will disappear under a t-shirt.

Could we see a pic with the green grips? I'm looking to get those grips as well

I was in the same boat, didn't really understand the allure that the P239 brought on. One came in used to my shop and I decided to pick it up. Even though the one I got was DAO, it was still a great shooter. I actually just converted it to DA/SA and plan to test it out tomorrow. I could certainly see carrying this gun, it's very well balanced and a pleasure to shoot.
