What is the point of the P239?

First off, I'm not trying to start a flame war. Just genuinely curious.

What need did/does the P239 satisfy? It's a heavy, large/wide single-stack pistol. If I wanted heavy and/or large, there are double stacks that are roughly the same size. If I want single-stack, there's the P6/225 or a myriad of more concealable single stack guns out there.

I feel like I must be missing something about the '239.

I Like It Much better that My P226 and P220
I can conceal it better than both of those and almost as well as My P 938

I believe the two previous respondents answered your question adequately, but I want to add this... If there wasn't a need or demand, it would have been gone by now, as it's in it's 21st year!

Missing something.....

I agree that the 239 is not right for everyone but I can assure you .... It is my preferred carry gun. Comes in multiple calibers which is an added plus. It is smaller and more concealable than the 225 and it fits my hand like a glove unlike the double stacked sig pistols. I have always believed that you should carry what you feel comfortable with and what you can shoot the most accurate. For me that is the 239. I'm not trying to convince you that you should carry it, that is a decision you have to make on your own after multiple guns, holsters, belts and ammo down range. It is a journey.......

You really think it's the the most balanced Sig? I've been wanted to shoot one but haven't been lucky enough to find one to try. I've held a 9mm model and a .40 model and thought they were top heavy with the .40 being more so. I love my p226 but I do not think it's perfectly balanced either. In my opinion I think the p229 is the most balanced. But the grip is much thicker. I didn't think there was a huge difference between the two until another member here posted a side-by-side pic of them. Big difference.

I disagree with your premise. I don't find it that heavy or wide. In fact I added Hogue G10 grips to make mine a tiny bit wider. And any weight it might carry just means it's a very soft shooter in 40/357 for a compact, while still being very easy to conceal.

The "point", in my opinion, is that it's got the style of a Walther in a more powerful package. As soon as I sold my 9mm I missed it, went right out and bought a 40.

You can't really overstate the slim/short nature of the 239 grip until you've carried it IWB for a while and compared it against most other pistols. The difference, even compared to something like the 225A is practically night and day. And despite the nature of the grip it still manages to shoot very comfortably and accurately.

To me its a P230 / 232 size, with a polymer frame (much lighter) and a heavier caliber (more practical well..way to speak) ... a nice evolution for a concealed-carry- weapon...worth considering if they bring it out in 45 ACP

An Outstanding Pistol

I got a 239-40 in a trade, thinking I would sell or trade it. After the first range session I was convinced to keep it. Incredibly accurate and reliable. It is a much thinner grip than most double-stack SIGs. Shoot one and you'll discover the point.

To be on my hip everyday, duh!!! I carry my P239/9 just about everyday. If I'm wearing more clothes I might carry my P229/.357.

As far as the size of the P239, it may be a little heavy, but as others have said, it makes it a soft shooter. Even my 10 year old daughter loves to shoot it. Moving up to the next size gun (P228/P229) may not seem like a huge difference in size, but it really is. I really notice the weight difference when carrying my P229. Yes there are smaller guns, like the P938/P238, but those are more pocket-carry guns (IMO) than a holster-carry gun like the P239. I always say that I want to carry a combat handgun-the P239 is a smaller combat handgun.

My only real complaint about the P239 is the trigger guard. I wish it was more like the P229.

If I ever finally decide to get a p239, it's gonna be set up exactly like yours.
