Sig 1911 Beavertail Safety

Hello,
I recently purchased a Sig 1911 tacpac and I really love this gun in every way except one. I hate the speed bump on the grip safety. I know the older models of these guns had no speed bump but when I called Sig they said they no longer produce a non-speed-bump version - though they do get quite a few calls asking for it; in fact if you were to send in an old style gun and it needed a replacement they would install the new speed-bump version.

My question is - without getting into the merits of having or not having the speed-bump - does anyone know where to source and old-style non-speed-bump drop-in replacement for the safety? I know brownells and similar sites have "drop-in" replacements but I have read quite a few reviews where modifications end up being needed to the frame - which is something I want to avoid. I figure if I can get an OEM sig part that would be the best.

Thanks.

you probably need to work with a gunsmith & let him order the parts needed, if it's possible.

I was hoping to be able to find an place that sells older OEM sig parts. This is my backup option though.

unless you can do the swap yourself, i doubt if a gunsmith is going to want to install your parts.

Why would you not want the speed bump safety grip?

You could always grind it down and refinish it. Problem with that is keeping the frame protected while filing, sanding and refinishing. I blended my safety and MSH on my fastback but I also refinished the entire 1911. It's definitely not for the faint hearted but it can be done.

Obviously, if your going to work on it you would take it out of the gun. If it's stainless no finish work needed. Just buff of sand to the finish you want. If the gun is not stainless, a stainless safety would make a nice accent.

I never understood the whole over size beaver tail and speed bump anyway. But then I've never been bit by a slide. I don't have big fat fleshy hands either. Just thought a lot of that stuff was just for looks. Personally I think it kind of spoils the lines, just my opinion.
