Talking Noob here!! Got my first handgun - SP2022 9mm

What's up guys and girls? Just thought I'd make a thread and introduce myself here. My name is Calin and I picked up my first handgun about a month ago. I was close to getting a Springfield XD, but I rented one at a range and didn't really like the way it felt. I'm not sure what it was, but something about it just felt awkward. So after doing some online research I decided to get a Sig Sauer SP2022 9mm, and I couldn't be happier with it. I've put 250 rounds through it so far and totally love it. Although I've had 2 misfires. The casing got caught in the ejector twice and failed to eject. Is that normal during the break-in period? I've shot a few of my friend's handguns before, but I'm still pretty new to this. Although I'm looking to make a fun hobby out of it. I'd love to also get a 1911 in a few months and possibly a shotgun also. Here are a few pictures of my 2022!!

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for a light/laser for under $100, please let me know! Thanks

I also just realized that I posted this in the wrong section. If a mod can move this to the new members section, I'd really appreciate it!

Idk looks like the right section as your talking about a sig handgun... but u also introduced yourself w'ell let a mod sort it out welcome and good call my only issue with the sp2022's are their lack of any kind of safety... other than that they feel and shoot great... as for a failure to eject its possible it was a wear in issue... but more likely it was the ammo you used... did you clean it before you took it out if not maybe some grease... i do know a friend of mine when he got his it was VERY difficult to disassemble the first few times it took my nylon hammer to get it apart

Ya, I guess I'll let a mod decide if he wants to move it or not then. I'm not too concerned about not having a safety on it since I don't carry the gun. The only thing I use it for is just target shooting and possibly home defense. And no, I didn't clean it before shooting it the first time. I just shot it exactly how I got it. I'll give it a really good cleaning and greasing and then put a few more hundred rounds through it to see if it happens again. If it does, I'll give Sig a call. From what I hear, they have excellent customer service and are very helpful.

I just got a SP2022 also and I'm very happy with it. I cleaned and lubed mine before the range and had no problems. I put about 200 rounds thru it. I think that was probably the problem.

Also, from a fellow noob, welcome!!!

I just also finished cleaning and lubing my gun right now, so I'm hoping I won't have any more issues next time I take it to the range. I might go tomorrow

Cool! I was wanting .40 cal too, but the gun dealer I bought the 9mm from didn't know it was out or if it was going to be anytime soon.

I hope I will be happy and pleased with the 9mm as I plan on practice shooting a lot so the price for ammo could save quite a bit. I do really like having the 15 round magazine too.

How many does the .40 hold?

I'm from California, so we have a max capacity of 10 rounds. But in other states, the 40 has a capacity of 12.

I also live in California. Here's what I read on another forum a few weeks ago though

"im also in cali. i also have a sp2022 in 9mm. i have 2 magazines for the. 40s&w model that do indeed hold 10 rounds of .40s&w as they're designed to do. they just also happen to hold 12 rounds of 9mm and fit the 9mm sp2022 as well.
not illegal at all. definately a grey area though ."

Oh, ok, thanks! Having 3 more rounds than the .40 I guess makes up for it.

I really was wanting the .40 myself instead or .357 Sig.

Does anybody know if they make it in .357 Sig yet?

I bought a 357 Sig barrel for my SP2022 in 40. It uses the same magazine. It shoots a little low with the 357 Sig barrel because the 357 Sig uses a different front sight.

I rather have an extra 10 round magazine handy rather than to take a chance for just 2 extra rounds.

Thanks for the responses. I just picked up my new Sig SP 2022 9mm yesterday.

From what I recall, I had a Glock 23 (I think it was) years ago in .40 cal and I remember finding out that I could buy a .357 Sig barrel for it and that was all it would take to switch over between calibers.

So I think I would be able to do the same with this 9mm Sig SP 2022.

As far as I know the barrel-size is the only real difference between the 9mm, the .357 Sig and the .40 cal..

And so should be able to just change out the barrel and be good to go!~

If anybody knows any more for certain,

I'd really appreciate finding out.

That's true. I think I'm going to order a 2nd magazine from Sig soon.
