night sights or contrast

I just purchased a new 226 the box and model number says it has contrast sights but the sights on the gun seem to me to be night sights they glow in the dark i was just wondering if some one could tell me the difference between the to when i think of contrast I think of plane white dots

Sig contrast sights are a post/dot (rear/front, aligned by "dotting the 'i') configuration. Sig contrast sights are not night sights. It is a matter of user preference. Myself, I prefer the three dot configutation with many night sights.

If the sights are three-dot and glow in the dark, more than likely, you have night sights... I prefer night sights, especially at an indoor range.

Night sights are also cool in that they have a tiny enclosed vial of radioactive tritium, or hydrogen-3, in them. It's perfectly harmless when it's enclosed inside the vials, but it glows for about 12 years before it fades.

You can also aim in complete darkness, which is completely awesome.

thank you everyone for help I thought they were night sights put the box and model number were confusing me I would have been happy with either one but the night sights are a nice little bonus

While SIG "Contrast" sights used to be "Dot the I" sights, the P220 with Contrast sights I bought in September came with painted 3-Dot sights. I've also seen other new SIGs with plain 3-Dot sights labelled "Contrast". It's kind of confusing but it appears SIG is now using plain white 3-Dot sights as their standard configuration.

In any event, the sights on magnum24's SIG is definitely night sights. They are indeed a nice bonus.
