Anybody having issues with long extractors on their p226?

Hi all!

Just got my p226 9mm finally! Wohoo!!

The bad news is that the pistol has a long extractor. I heard from several sources that long extractors cause pistol to malfunction sometimes. Is this true? Can you share your experiences regarding the long extractors on p226 in 9mm? Any problems/concerns?

Thanks for your input!

They had a short lived problem that turned out to be not the extractors fault. Barrel as memory serves.
Once a bad rep always a bad rep. The long extractors work just fine and lots of people have them.

If you have a problem with yours, please let us know. It will be the first actual case that I've heard of.

I have a long extractor on my 229. I worry more about Mrs. TF finding out about how much I'm spending on ammo to keep it fed and how much I'm going to spend on my next Sig!

Agreed. Long extractor- no problem. Wife figuring out what I've spent on guns and ammo...

rather than anticipate a problem, shoot it & see if you do have a problem.

did you know the 226 would have the long extractor when you bought it?

Nope. I actually called the store (online retailer) to make sure it had a short ejector before placing an order and was reassured that it did. That's what pisses me off more than anything at the moment.

I'll give it a go. Based on what sig users here are saying I'm feeling much better, and will report back if I am having any problems.

Thanks folks for your comments!

Sig was phasing out the short extractor. But it seems to be hanging on with some models. The brand new P227 has the short extractor.
But I trust them both. Absolutely no problem with one design or the other.

And I seem to recall it was an issue with some P229s that were shiped with over-bored chambers and, by pure coincidence, the new long extractor. Turned out the problem was the chamber on that run but people blamed the extractor. It should shoot just fine.

You will not have one single problem...it seems to me that Sig MIGHT be doing away with the short extractor as the last 2 models I purchased(the only 2) came with the long extractor, plus I have 2 friends who have recently purchased new Sigs and they both have the long extractor, and have experienced no problems whatsoever. Have over 1000 rds. on the first gun with absolutely no problems. Have yet to fire my recently received P226. I would hazard a guess that the Sig engineers know what they are doing.

I don't believe there is any problem with the long extractor. SIG has probably sold hundreds of thousands of pistols with them by now.

When their is ANY problem with a SIG pistol with the long extractor some like to blame it right away because any change to a SIG pistol has to be a bad thing.

However I like the looks of the short extractor better, particulary on the all stainless steel model SIG pistols.

Silly question. I do not see what I believe to be an extractor on my 1994 P226, can that be right or am I confusing what an extractor is? Thanks

Want to learn something, so how do you tell if you have a long or a short extractor?

Long has the paper wrap on the grip.

Short doesn't have the paper wrap.
