Here, the OP has not bought the gun, and came asking for advice. Big difference.
As it should be!

A NIB nickel original 228 all German with all will easily bring north of 1200 dollars. If anyone doubts that just price one if you can find one for sale. Not that they are rare but not for sale that often. And while we are at it price a real nice or NIB two tone 228. That is when you will meet reality head on. Of course I am speaking of triple serial Germans.

I want to thank everyone for the advice.

I did decide to pass on this, with price and the condition being the two major factors for me.

I do believe this is the same gun that alinc100 picked up.

There can be a huge difference in what they are worth, versus what they are bringing.

Mr Waverly and others,
You are correct this is the same gun as I picked up.It does have a couple bumps and bruises, most are on the slide/rails where normal wear would occur anyway. It's a used gun, not a pristine safe queen which made it easy for me to enjoy at the range. it is a W German gun with 3 matching serial numbers..A similar 228 came up a few months back on Armslist and sold in minutes for $600 ,never saw that gun it sold so fast. So I figured $700 was reasonable . Sadly none of the factory goodies were there except 3 mags. A recent sale on Gunbroker shows just how willing some are to get a pristine example:
West German P228, Nickel, Like New, Original Owner : Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com .

I know we are more than a few miles apart but if the chance ever presents itself you are welcome to take it for a spin.

Congratulations! (Exactly what I said in your thread on the Green site.)

Btw, a refinished nickel P228 sold for over $1300 on GB a month or two ago. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/625663260
