Police trade ins?

Forgive my ignorance on the subject. I'm in California where it's against the law to look at a gun ( haha). I was curious to know if they there are any Police trade ins in California where I could purchase a used Sig P firearm? Or is that asking too much for California? Lol. Any info on the subject, how it works, how do I view the available stock etc, please fill me in

Thanks all! Again please excuse my ignorance.

Departments normally trade their guns in when they buy new ones from either a LEO dealer or directly with the manufacturer if they are a large enough department. So you will have to check local gun dealers to see if they have any or use a gun search engine to look for police trade ins. Many of the large online dealers suually get them in every now and then and you will see some on Gunbroker, Buds Gun Shop, Impact Guns, Guns America, Guns International, Auction Arms and others. Good luck.

Look for the regional distributors of Law Enforcement equipment in your area/region. They are generally the ones who accept police trade-in equipment to offset new equipment. This is if the particularly law enforcement agency is authorized by its higher power to trade-in firearms.

There are some law enforcement activities who are also allowed to trade-in confiscated and recovered firearms after they are no longer needed for evidence or whatever. Even some which were firearms used in suicides.

Try finding out who your local and state police deal with for equipment. If trade-ins are allowed in your State (California), they will be the source.

Here in California, Adamson Police Products have several locations. They deal with many departments and are one of only a few actual LE distributors for SIG in the state. I'd start with them. For online products, Topgunsupply is the best used cop gun dealer I know of, especially for SIGs, and sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore would be my next suggestion.

I'd also suggest keeping an eye on the classified section of Calguns. I know myself and other officers frequently sell off-roster pistols on there. I've sold two off-roster SIGs there in the past two years. My only advice would be to be patient, if someone is trying to gouge on prices pass and wait for a better deal to come along. People who are exempt from the law and try to make a bunch of money off other gun enthusiasts should not be rewarded.

I've enjoyed buying police trade-in's.

Purchased a nice P220 in 45 acp and P229 in 40SW as former LE trades.

I have purchased a couple of P229 40 DA/SA too. One of my ex-LEO's came from a seller in WA in the "green" classifieds who had 4 or 5 of them, I paid a bit extra to get the best one ($449 included shipping). And by best, it looked superb, not a scratch and low round count - and that was for a 1999 gun! Probably a desk officer.

But, CA is much more difficult, with grandfathered off roster (the CA "approved") guns legally in CA (owned by a resident) and selling to another CA resident, going for a lot more than the gun would fetch if sold outside of CA. I have a son running a company over there, so try to stay in touch with the churning mass of asinine stupidity that is CA gun law.

LE Trade In Source

Another source is Summit in MO. I have purchased several firearms from Summit... he is AAA+++ Look under "Used SIGs". I noticed he had used P229R TSS (.40SW) and Sig P239 (.40SW)

Link: Firearms, Guns, Rifles. Grain Valley, Missouri.

Welcome from South Florida.
That's a good site. I'll add it to my favorites for future reference.
Maybe I'll catch you some time on 20 or 40 meters.
