Converstion Kits

I see Sig has .45 conversion kits on their site; however, the wording leads me to believe they are made for use on models that start out at .22LR. I have a P220 10mm and was wondering if they might work on this, but again that wording is a little concerning. Anyone have any experience or insight on this?

Thanks!

Dave

Dave, I often wondered the same, and in your instance, it seems that it would be a viable installation, since the 10mm is a little higher pressure.
I purchased a P226 9mm conversion, as a back up, for my older W. German Sig with the folded slide, and firing pins and internal extractors, no longer available from the "factory"! It fits and functions splendidly! I have been contemplating getting a replacement 220 slide assembly for my W. German 220, just waiting after buying a new P239 .40 recently, for cash reserves to replenish!

It may be worth a call to Sig, to insure it is a viable swap, considering the price for one of the Caliber X-Change kits, currently $407 each from Sig for center fire calibers. I wouldn't read too much into their verbiage, since they also are showing the .22 rim fire conversions, to convert center fire models to rim fire. At the most, you may need to purchase a locking insert for a P220 .45 ACP, in addition to the X-Change kit!

It would be beneficial if there is a member with both a P220 10mm, and a P220 .45 ACP model, to see if they're interchangable. With the 10mm having a 5" barrel IIRC, I'd say the locking insert would need to be swapped! There is also the possibility, it could be like the original 220s, in various calibers, that they used different trigger bars, and the slides in various calibers were relieved in different areas dependent on caliber, so not an easy swap, as double action function would be disabled.

I believe the frames on the P220/45 and P220/10 are dimensionally the same. The magwells may be different, though.
