Well i need some help...i can not decide...what would u do with these two choices?...

well i have narrowed it down to two guns...i love the P224 Extreme and would love to get one...but i am not able to handle one and find one here locally...i was able to look and handle a P239 today and well it is nice but i am worried the grip might be a bit long for good ankle concealment...the one locally is used but in like new condition...it has both 357 sig and 40 s&w barrels and magazines included...i think i can get both guns bought roughly for the same money...one would be NIB and the other will be used...my heart tells me to go for the new gun and the warranty and all that ...but it is the much harder way to go...any help would be so appreciated...God Bless,John
i really do not need both...otherwise i would buy them both and see
i want either gun to be the extreme model and both need to be sa/da and have the decocker and prefer them to have a hammer too...locally they tell me i should try to find the DAK hammer ...i am not sure what they mean by this..

First, if ankle carry is important, having carried a PPKS (380) on my ankle for 7 years, I'd be looking at light and small, such as a P938. To my thinking, and ankle holster is for back up only as it's about as bad as it gets for quick access.

Since I'm not sure of all your requirements, a couple of thoughts . . . The P224 is not a current model, so used selection my be sub-optimal. I thought about a P239, but for me it's not enough smaller than a P229 to justify the lower capacity.

I'm with you on the external hammer DA/SA. A DAK gives that SA trigger quality away for a lower profile hammer (and every trigger pull just as miserable - or at least long - as the last one, oops, I mean just as good as the last :c( I do like my DA/SA!

In the end it's what you like that counts. I would have traded that heavy PPKS, on my ankle, for a P938 in half a heartbeat, an anchor if you have to run. The department did not approve of back ups, so that location was the only option to back up a 6 round revolver and drop pouches for extra ammo - it was a while back.

Well i like the P938 but i want a sao/dao...the weight does not bother me...thank u for the advice
I might have to get a P938 extreme as well as the P224 or the P239 before this is all said and done..

First off, in my opinion both the P224 and P239 are too large (and too heavy) for ankle carry. It's gonna feel like you've got an anchor on your leg. Second, while a warranty is a good thing, not having one is not necessarily a bad thing. Most of my SIGs have been purchased used from individuals (no warranty) and I've never had to send one in for repairs. I will say, though, that I regularly disassemble my SIGs and swap parts so I'm confident I can repair most issues with my guns. Thus a warranty isn't necessarily needed other than the cost of replacement parts.

The P239 is a single stack (3.6" barrel) and the P224 is a double stack (3.9' barrel). Basically the P224 is a P229 with a shortened grip. These guns are not really even close to being the same. I would feel confident with either one in a belt holster. I don't think the P239 comes in an Extreme model. My EDC is a P239/9 either OWB or IWB.

Lastly, you talk about needing SAO/DAO. Do you mean DA/SA? SAO means single-action-only, and DAO means double-action-only. Neither gun comes in SAO or DAO, but both come in DA/SA (double action/single action, with a decocker). The P239 also comes in DAK (double-action-Kellerman) which is an enhanced double-action-only system. Both guns also are hammer fired.

well thank u for catching my mistakes with the sao/dao...i meant to say sa/da..thank u for the clarification...well the local used gun is not a extreme...i should have clarified this as well..it is just a sa/da P239 in 357 sig with the additional 40 s/w barrel and mag...and it has the DAK trigger as well..i have carried for a long time a 1963 Colt Detective Special 2" so the weight will not be a issue...it will be my primary CCW as i am downsizing my collection and retiring the Colt from carry...i like the ankle for my CCW but i am also considering a aliengear IWB 3.0 as a possibility too..
i know the P224 is a discontinued too...i have been a ASE mechanic for over 25 years and do most of my own repairs...so i too feel like i can fix just about anything ...but my thinking for the same price..
God Bless,John

John, if the P239 is DA/SA, then it wouldn't "normally" have the parts needed to convert it to DAK (or visa versa) - it isn't just swapping a trigger, it's a list of internal parts to change.

BTW, there are those that prefer DAK, but DA/SA is far more in demand. In fact, in the used LEO trade in market, a DAK gun takes a hit of about a 20% hit on price. If you want DAK, no problem, but if you want DA/SA, make sure you get that, as the cost to convert from DAK to DA/SA rarely makes sense unless you happen upon the rare person who wants to swap parts to go in the other direction.

HK P30SK 9mm for $474? Man this is a good deal for a lighter da/sa pistol of the same size of a P224.

Well i am just going by what i can figure out with the local one...it is for sure a sa/da with a decocker...357 sig with a additional 40 s-w and two additional 40s-w genuine mags too...all items appear to be used to some degree ...i was told the hammer was the Dak style....they are asking 1100.00 which i think is way too high ...

The price on the P239 is to high even with the extra barrel IMO. Try Gunbroker.com for a P239 or a P224 Extreme. I own a P224 Extreme and am very pleased with it. Make sure the ads are for DA/SA not DAK. Shop around and you will find what you are looking for.

I know I guy who carries 239 in an ankle holster and as a BUG, every time I see him I think he's crazy the guy is way over the 300 pounds mark and probably 6'2" or 6'3" that might be why he can do it, for me a 642 gets heavy after a couple hours.
