I have ran about 100 rds of Remington UMC fmj and jhp through my 2022 with no issues. No issues with Federal, WWB fmj and jhp or Monarch fmj. I haven't tried any other brands yet.
I recently bought a 9mm 2022 and just bought a few hundred rounds of UMC 115 gr. This will be my first outing with it sometime this upcoming week and ill post if i had any issues with this combo
9mm. I ran as of today 200 rounds of UMC. and 10 rounds each of Hornady CD 115gr, Fed HS 147gr, Fed HST 124gr and Powerball 100gr.
Only FTE was with the last Powerball. Out of 200 rounds of ball ammo, I had 15 FTEs. One with my 4th carry load.
I may have limp wrist it after many rounds. I cleaned gun today and will try
another 100 rounds soon. The slide did not lock back after the last round two or three times. Thanks to all.
If it's a bad magazine, then may God be with you. I've looked around everywhere and short of buying another sp2022, it is impossible to find another 15rd mag. Well... I'll take a 20rd mag if they start selling that
Or inadvertently touching the slide stop without knowing it. It doesn't take much pressure at all to prevent the slide stop from doing it's job. It's the same with many firearms out there.
Until this tread I had no idea limp wristing could cause an issue with anything other than a sore wrist, but thanks to you guys and youtube I have learned otherwise.
Try Federal ammo- I've run about 200rd in it without a single problem.
I second troubleshooting the magazine. When I first got it, the thing was just covered in this disgusting grease. I'd disassemble it and clean out the inside if it needs cleaning. If it's a bad magazine, then may God be with you. I've looked around everywhere and short of buying another sp2022, it is impossible to find another 15rd mag. I am NOT buying a 10rd mag My LGS said that sp2022 mags are on back order.
Well... I'll take a 20rd mag if they start selling that
May very well be the ammo, I have been reading incresaing reports about trouble with the UMC ammo. I can also add that I too have had less than stellar perfomance with UMC.
Don't think anyone asked this, but do you have a tactical light installed on the gun?[ /QUOTE]
Not a bad question to ask but if he does and if its any of the major brand name ones i dont think that would be a issue because their weight is so minor and not enough to jam up his pistol that often.
From what ive read and without actually seeing your pistol or being able to watch you shoot it looks like this is your list of possible issues
Bad ammo (i obviously cant say for sure but i dont think thats the issue)
Limp wristing while shooting
Bad magazine or maybe its not fully seated
A possible bad extractor
A obstruction (dirt, fouling???) in the slide rail or on the frames rail
Basically i have no idea cause i cant watch you shoot
If it keeps happening maybe video a range session so us geeks can argue back and forth on whats wrong (that actually might be a good idea and some fun)
Improper position of slide lock pin in notch of barrel.
I had the same problem. The instruction manual for re-assembly is terrible.
There are a few youtube videos that can show you how to do this correctly.
I had multiple FTF and FTE and stovepiping at first, then learned the right way to get the pin in. Now the gun is flawless and so easy to shoot.
BTW, I replaced my cheap plastic guide rod with a stainless steel one from bedair.
This might have been my problem. But now the gun needs service. It all started with Winchester white box(which sig actually told me not to use) where I got an FTE, FTF, or some other malfunction every 3-4 rounds...pure garbage. I have roughly 2000 rounds through this gun, with what I would call maybe an 80% success rate. The gun functioned flawlessly with the first 500 rounds. I was using reloads at first and it worked great. The white box seemed to have killed the gun. Then I was getting FTE's about every magazine with brass ammo(ammo manufacture escapes me) the round wasn't even getting extracted out of the chamber. I was also shooting some lacquer coated steel ammo from Bear. I think that was the last nail in the coffin for my extractor. That thing is as loose as a 30 year old hooker... Sunday I was shooting fiocchi. I didn't have a single issue. However, I only shot about 30 rounds. I was breaking in my new Glock26 that day so the sig didn't get much love.
Regardless of whether or not the ammo is, or was the problem, my extractor is now very loose (I have an older molder with an internal extractor) and it needs servicing. I am just waiting for the right time to bring it to the FedEx hub.
100 rounds of Herters 115 gr. and 50 rounds of Winchester 124 gr. NATO loads with no hiccups. If your a righty, make sure to keep your thumb away from the slide lock lever as there have been cases of this causing the slide to not lock back.
If the slide ain't locking back because of thumb position, perhaps your digits are putting too much pressure on slide, lowering its velocity and making it malfunction. I always look at the simplest things first
I have shot Semi autos for years and never had any real issues, but I once tried dual wielding by 1911 45's and the pistol in my left hand kept having FTE. I traded hands and it still stayed in the left, or weak hand. I have no trouble shooting the weak hand with one pistol, but it is hard to concentrate on keeping a firm grip on both. I was amazed at how much difference it made in how the pistols cycled rounds. I have since had new shooters experience FTE with pistols that I know are functioning properly and it is always a failure to keep a firm grip on the pistol.
I did have an issue when I first started shooting my (then) new 2022.
Then I realized that it was operator error.
I use a thumbs forward grip and do quite well with it but then I realuized that when shooting my 2022, i was inadvertently hitting the slide release with my right thumb.
This is classified by shooting professionals as the "*******" syndrome but may possibly be complicated by some "bonehead" tendencies
I am not embarassed that I was causing the problem but the length of time needed to identify the solution was humbling
I rented a Sig P229 a few weeks back. On the last round of the 2nd or 3rd mag, I got a 'click' instead of a 'bang'. I thought I had a misfire at first. So, I stopped and waited for a bit and then dropped the mag. No rounds. Then, pulled the slide back. No rounds. "Ahhhhaaaaaaa!". The IT crowd calls it the "ID10T" error. This 1911 shooter had his thumb on the slide stop and released the slide to go back into battery. Derrrr...
Quick adjustment to my grip (sorta awkward) and I was happy as a clam.
I have a SP2022 that I'm picking up in 2 days, so I'm sure that I might have these same sorts of 'user' issues!
Hi folks. I know this is an old thread.... but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. Personally, I think this is a manufacturing defect. My favorites are Browning Hi Powers and FNH's. This brand new SP2022 is my first SIG.
I've never had to break in any new gun that I purchased. It just worked out of the box.
The SP2022 was my first FTE experience out of the box. First 50 rounds of PMC factory ammo resulted in 1 out of 5 spent cases getting stuck half out of the slide.
I took it home, thoroughly cleaned it, gave it a good oiling and put Syl Glyde in the rail grooves. Took it out again with another 50 rounds of the same PMC,.. worked flawlessly. So folks, before you throw out or return that new 2022 you just bought, give it a good scrubbing.
I have to say, barely touching the slide release lever on an empty magazine causes the slide to not lock open..... not impressive. I don't hold my guns in that fashion. I just happened to experiment after reading threads on this site.
All in all, it fires nicely, although I do find the DA trigger pull a little long . I may even use it as a CCW.
Now... the used P226 in 40 that I also bought.... mmmm.. tastey... but that's another story.
Wow, this thing started a while back. Sig told someone not to use WWB? Anyway, all good tips coming in. So far so good for mine; WWB, Federal, Monarch, even BrassMaxx(?), no issues at all, FMJ/JHP all good. Brother just got one this past weekend for his retirement (wink, wink), we'll see how his goes.
put right around a 1000 rounds through my new 2022, most have been reloads. Not one single issue other than a few failures to lock but I know its because of thumb placement....
1000 + through mine in 9mm. Federal fmj and some Winchester ranger Hp. Not one single problem. Like everyone else has said thumb placement on these are key to no malfunctions.
