excessive wear for "unfired" gun?

I've got a lead on a P229 9mm (2005/6ish era, I believe, and US made) advertised as "previously owned but unfired." The seller has very positive feedback and a lot of sales. I had asked the seller to send photos of the guns internals, and am not sure of what to make of everything--on one hand there still appears to be factory lube on the hammer and around the trigger pin and takedown lever, and the mags appear completely unused (I know they could be swapped out, but it's a data point. Also the top of the chamber looks pretty pristine.

On the other hand, the wear on the top of the rear frame, hammer, and the disconnector tab (is that the right term?) on the trigger bar seems higher than I would expect from an unfired gun, as does the light wear on the right side of the chamber seen through the ejection port--it's more wear than is on my 07 P226 after 250 rounds, but less than was on one of my 94 P229s when it was unfired. I can't tell if there's carbon build up on the locking block, or if that's just discoloration from some sort of preservative/lubricant.

What's the best guess for condition? Does unfired seem accurate? Could handling/dry fire have caused this? Or has it definitely seen use? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Is The Pistol A DAK?

Do you like a DAK?

Everything looks good to me. Offer $350.00 and convert to DA/SA.

I'm actually looking for a DAK, so that's an advantage.

The asking price is $910. Appropriate for a new gun, but waaaaaaaaaaay too high if it's been used.

racking the slide before being sold could contribute to the wear you see, looks new to me.

fjgiie:
$351 & i'll take it.

$910? He's dreaming, even is NIB.
Btw, why doesn't he show any pics of the barrel, with all the pics he gave you?

Anything is possible, since you are not the original owner.

Wow, I would walk in a heartbeat. $910? C'mon. On top of it, it's a DAK. I understand that's what you want, but I've yet to see someone charging a premium for a DAK; typically it's the other way. 12131 is right. He's dreaming.
I would keep waiting patiently if I were you.

FWIW, there is a dealer you can contact at frontlinearmsinc@charter.net who has a couple of cherry CPOs (DA/SA, though; UDE229-9-B1), old school Sigs with Legacy slides, no rail, in 9mm for a couple hundred less, at least. They might be sold now, but you never know.

That's probably a $600-$650 gun at most. I'd walk.

Also, if I'm getting a gun from that era, I want a German made frame.

$910 is WAY too much...
(and I don't buy the "unfired" on a 12 year-old pistol.)

I believe that has been used.

You could get a brand new P229 SAS Gen 2 9mm for that much money and you would like it much better - unless you want the accessory rail.

That looks like a gun that has been fired a few times, probably dry. It's definitely not unfired he's lying.

$350.

IMO, the condition of the locking insert, front and rear rails, and hammer, and possibly the safety bar, indicate that pistol has been fired.

Thanks to everyone for the replies--pretty much what I was thinking. I'm giving it a pass. Disappointing because a NIB 2006 9mm would be a great find, but you can't pretend it's something it isn't...
