Saw a new 2022 9mm today for $399. That's getting down into the Taurus price range. Any particular reason why 2022s are so much lower priced than other SIGs, which in general are very pricey? SIG makes a bunch of pistols in 9mm, going up to over $1,000 MSRP. Usually this kind of "cheapness" raises red flags where quality is concerned, but I've heard nothing but praise for this pistol. What's the deal?

I beleive its just because of the poly frame instead of the anodized frame thats on the pricier sigs. But i wouldnt be fooled, it seems everyone who has them loves them, including myself. They are accurate, sweet shooting pistols.

The 2022 is a SigPro with a composite frame and a price that is clearly set to target the huge portion of the market that Glock has owned lately. The best way to take away marketshare from a competitor is to deliver a quality product at a better price. So I imagine that is what they are doing.

I shopped and compared for 2 months before I made my decision to purchase the 9mm 2022 with Nite Sights. It is my 4th carry pistol and beats them all hands down. It will probably be my last carry pistol purchase.

There is clearly nothing "Cheap" about the 2022.

SIG fufilled a contract with the French for a quarter million SP2022s a few years back. The capital costs and R&D for the SP2022 have been long payed off and it was to be disontinued.

Then SIG had a contract overrun from the French that they needed to get rid of so they shipped them to retailers at blowout prices.

Funny thing is that as a people snapped up the cheap the SP2022, that did not sell so well when it was over $600, and they loved them and the word got around of how easy they were to shoot accurately, how reliable and durable it was, and the great trigger out of the box.

So it seems that SIG decided to bring the SP2022 back and sell at a low price point that I am sure they are still making a decent per unit profit on since the poly frame P250 did not take off near as well as SIG hoped. The SP2022 appraently does not take away sales from the higher priced SIGs. Matter of fact it has turned into the gateway drug for SIG!

So SIG can sell a high quality poly frame DA/SA pistol for less than a Glock. Hmm - wonder why Glocks cost so much?

Thanks for the clarifying that in such detail. Im still new to firearms, but im persuing a CCW weapon as my 226 w/ bright ass aluminum grips is probably not the best choice. Would you consider the sp2022 a good CCW? Is the trigger similar to the p226??

I dont know if the trigger is similar to a 226 but for ccw its great, its my new main carry gun, i switched from a glock 19 to the 2022 and couldnt be happier

With sigarms228 statement of the 2022 being a sig gateway drug I have to agree the 2022 was my first gun ever. Now I own it a sig 556 and now a sig 220 along with my wife getting the sig mosquito.

The SP2022 is a great shooting gun, especially for the price. I too believe that the low price is because of its polymer frame.

They had to retool big time to produce the 250,000 sp2022 that the French ordered. Plus the polymer frame, production cost should be way down. Good for us non French.

I myself can not CCW because of the state I live in (not hard to guess which one) but the SP2022 does have a great trigger like the P226 which I also have. It does seem that a lot do CCW with the SP2022.

IMHO the 2022 shoots circles around the Ruger P89 that I had in the 90's. I paid over $400 for the Ruger back then. I wouldn't purchase another brand over Sig Sauer ever again. I am hooked.

I carry mine IWB with a Blackhawk Holster that costs about $12. It is perfectly comfortable in all situations.

I had the 2340 which was Sigs first venture into the polymer frame pistol frey. It was a bit top heavy for me but it did shoot accurately and the trigger was great. Aside from the top heaviness of the gun it had the proprietary accessory rail. If the triggers on the 2022's are the same then I agree they are fine pistols

The frame is less expensive to produce, we know that.

I think that with Sig's historiclly high end prices and more and more guns to compete with on the market, Sig had to make an "affordable" line to attract more customers and get them hooked on Sig. I think they hit a home run with the SigPro line.

I did my homework before I bought mine, and I couldn't be happier. The fit, finish and fuction of the SP2022 are excellent. The DA pull makes it safe for a home defense gun and the SA pull makes it a great range gun.

Make no mistake, the only thing poor about the poor man's Sig is the price tag. I plan on purchasing another as soon as possible. It shoots allot like a rich man's Sig.

I have a 226, and a 229. I still think I NEED a 2022. I fired one for the first time this week, and couldnt be more impressed. They are great shooters at an even better price.
