I have this used 228 that came with a 10 round mag. When I look for mags on the net I see Pro-mag and Mecgar-10, 13, and 15 round mags from $25-$45.
Are these mags okay, or is there a good place to get mags?
Sig USED to ship their weapons with Mec-Gar magazines (Made in Italy) but have changed to Checkmate mags which are marked "Made in USA". Mec-Gars have proven themselves to be reliable and, to most, the preferred magazine. 228s and 229s shared the same 9mm magazine until Sig released their newest versions of the 229 in late 2010. The new 9mm now have the same frame size as the .40/.357. The older magazines which work for the 228s and 229s are simply labeled 229 and will fit in both new and older versions of the gun. They will be a little loose in the newer frames and could rattle. I've used the older magazines in the new 229 and experienced no problems but there is the potential for feeding problems. The newer 9mm magazines, for the newer version of 229, are labeled 229-1 and ONLY fit in the new frame - they are too wide for the old frames.
As for sources, I get mine from Greg Cote. He has provided outstanding service, pricing and usually has inventory.
Thanks for the answers- and thanks for the link Sig Marine.
I see they have 15 round MG mags for 21.95....that looks good to me.
