Mk25 p226

FNG here. I have been looking for a new boat gun for quite awhile. I was looking at a Glock 17 due to their reputation but I didn't care for how it felt in my hands (too used to 1911's and Kahr's). When I heard that Sig got permission to sell the revised Navy Seal 226 to the public I had to have it. So, today I picked up my MK25 P226 from my local gun store. I haven't had a chance to clean it and shoot it yet, but I love the way it feels in my hands. My goal was to buy a high quality gun that could withstand being used on a saltwater fishing boat for many years. I think I made the right choice. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania.

As long as regular cleaning and maint is perfromed it should fair better than a standard 226. Remember, though, the phosphated internals does not mean you can just "set it and forget it".

Can't go wrong with a Sig... Since it will be exposed to the salt air, make sure its well lubricated to avoid corrosion.

great gun. I have a 220 combat which is the equivalent in a 45. I love it.

Reliable, there is nothing on a salt water fishing boat that is "set it and forget it." I'm just looking for a slightly larger margin of error. I've taken items on the boat that looked brand new on the dock and actually had rust on them when we got back to shore.

I can't wait to get a chance to shoot it.

You'd be suprised how many would read that and think that "set it and forget it" would apply.

You obviously have realistic expectations, your margin should improve over the standard 226.

Worked 37 years in US Defense Systems Acquisition to include a major USMC combat vehicle. IMHO if you want something that will perform reliably at sea, buy what the Navy/USMC buy! And you did just that with the Mk25. Smart choice.

Buying a Navy 226 is a good choice its more than a 226 with a anchor. Its a Navy Seals service pistol with a good service record. 226,s are a good reliable combat pistol world wide by many Goverments and countrys.
