Sight Pusher

Interested in your thoughts about owning a sight pusher and best brands to consider. I currently own a P250C and P229. The 250 could use some adjustment in azimuth (rear sight isn't adjustable) and I'm considering replacing the "contrast sights" on the 229 with night sights but have not decided yet which brand. I read that the Sig sight pusher won't work on Truglo's though. Any other issues to consider?

I have an MGW sight pusher that I had purchased from Top Gun Supply. While the design has changed a bit the concept is the same. I debated quite a bit before I laid out the cash for a sight pusher. After getting my third classic P series Sig I decided to get one, not so much as to adjust the sights but to be able to install night sights without the need for involving anyone else and to be able to do it at my convenience.

Yes, its a bit pricy but when you stop to consider what some charge to install night sights, $30-$50, my pusher has paid for itself between my uses and installing a set for my son. I've also used it to align the sights after installation although they centered up fairly well during the original install. As some of my pistols get a little older and the nightsights need to be changed out, I can look for the best price on sights, buy them, then install them myself, they payback will continue to grow.

Just a side note: Extreme care needs to be taken by the novice and professional alike to have the sights lined up at the initial insertion into the dovetail. One can still screw up the job even though you have a sight pusher. It is a tool subject to the users actions. I have not destroyed any sights or dovetails but I also maintain a hight degree of vigilance when using the sight pusher.

I have six Sigs in the classic line and the sight pusher will work with all of them. The Sig Pro series uses a different pusher. I feel mine was worth every penny.

There are some designs that are more universal in adjustments for different slides. These types could be used on a wider range of pistol models and manufacturers. I have not used them personally. Mine is specific to the classic P series. I do not know where the 250 falls as far as sight pushers. A 'universal' model may be better suited for your needs.

I use this: Hand Gun Sight tool - Home - El Cajon, CA

It works great with my pistols but with the SP2022 you'll need to pay the small amount of $8 extra for the XD/SP2022 blocks.

As usual, very useful input. The SIG site catelog says their unit, which I understand is made by MGS, will not accomodate the E2 version of the 229 slide. I'm assuming that has to do with the exterior forward slide profile. Have you used your MGS with an E2 version slide? Any limitations on your MGS unit when installing Truglo sights?

I've taken a TruGlow front out but have never installed. I got it to work but the pusher is not designed for the TruGlow sights, they are a different configuration. Since the TruGlow was coming out and it was destined to be replaced with a standard front night sight I was not concerned about damage to the sight, I got it out with out damage, just wanted to make it clear I was not worried about it. All uses have been on Pre E2 pistols, I won't own an E2, grips and trigger make the trigger reach too short.

I too have the MGW sight tool... it works great for my purposes... However, never tried it on TruGlow sights.

Any experience using your MGS unit on an E2 style slide?

In the last month, my Tru Glo TFO's have been pushed out and in twice for work on the slide. A Sig tool was used without any issue or damage to the sights or slide.

And that does look to be an E2 slide. Correct?
