Sig P290 Gen 2

Has anyone noticed the contest for the second gen P290 on Sigs site with redesigned chassis? Also stated what everyone else has said about Restrike capability, redesigned magazine and contoured Mag release button. I think they did the chassis change because some users were riding to high on the grip? Not sure about that one.

Yes I'm particularly intrigued about the frame redesign. Also the mags now seem to all have an extrusion from the photos.

They actually sent me one of the new Mags for free, as I had to send the gun back for problems. I really like the new Mag and when there available retail want to buy another one. The frame design, I think, is a response to the possible failure to eject problems. I can't see that helping in light strikes but I could be wrong. Looks like just alittle more at the back of the gun was added. I myself have had no problems with my hand riding up and I have large hands.

Going to go over to Cabelas and just for curiosity try the Restrike P290 also see how the new Chassis feels.

Sorry I went over to Cabelas and it was so crowded at the counter I could not get close to it. Went today to check out the new version of the P290. What has me puzzled is when the gun came out it was for concealed carry so they made it with a rather plain non catching design. The new style they flared out the top of the Backstrap for what reason I don't know. Mine is cut pretty clean in that area and I have had no problems at all. They also now have the Magazine release button sticking out pretty far. Mine is more flush and again has worked flawlessy. I have to say I did send my Sig back to have the Mag Release button changed, spring wise and the new trigger group. Also ithe countergun had the 8 round extended Magazine which in this counter gun would not lock back the slide when empty. I had to force the slide stop up to catch it. The P290 I own now is the second one, the first btw had a broken slide stop spring out of the box. I suspect this one is broke too which when you put all this together makes for some crappy Quality control on Sigs part. The trigger feels the same as my replaced trigger group which for me feels fine for a carry gun. I thought with the redesigned chassis on the counter gun it would have restrike but it didn't. In this area I'm not an expert, maybe it as to have a round chambered but I cannot figure why. Just the same it did not restrike on pulling the trigger the second time. My returned P290 works great, accurate, feeds like it should. Still so many problems on this gun... ftf, ft drop the hammmer, night sites dead, reported 8 round magazine problems, trigger gritty and now introducing a restrike capability as if to say "hey if our gun dosent fire we'll give you another shot"! I like the way my gun is right now, would I have got involved in Sigs adventures into the mirco 9 NO.

Just was out with the P290 and shot another 50 rounds through it, I think I'm up to 400 rounds through the gun, one ftf with WWB ammo and repeated strikes were not gonna make this stubborn round fire. Final thoughts on the gun, some complain its to heavy, but its the slide weight that makes it shoot so accurate. Recoil is very acceptable for a small nine. My gun the way it is right now is reliable to carry which I do trading off between the G27 and Sig. My only concern is that with the restrike capability is Sig introducing yet another customer field test on us. The new trigger group is just fine for me but this new gen with Restrike who knows.. My opinion.

I have always thought when people say a quality gun this small is "too heavy" by just holding it in their hands, when they probably carry a little extra weight (fat) themselves, is ridiculous. With a proper holster, a small pistol like the 290 easily disappears and makes the pistol actually seem 'lighter'.

I'm guessing that SIG has learned from their early failures with the 290. We'll all know for sure in a few months when plenty of them are being used.

The gun dose carry well, if I had one complaint its that the side panels are very grippy lol if thats a word. That sounds like a good thing right? but when its under a shirt inside the waistband its like sandpaper on your skin. I am hoping for some creative entrepreneurs to come up with different side panels to choose from. A good thread would be is how people are carrying there P290, I use a Desantis Pocket tuk at the 4 position with a forward cant. I have looked into holsterpro's 508 item that is his solution to keeping the gun away from skin but stili inside the waistband but haven't made up my mind. You may be right in that Sig has learned from the first gen, just worries me that they added the restrike feature which now makes the trigger group another unknown for people to buy into. The fixes they put into place for the first gen have me satified and really enjoying the gun. I really suggest anyone who has a first gen to send it back as the trigger really smoothed out.

Being 165lbs skinny, I usually use a IWB and sometimes a pocket holster but the other day I just stuck it in my front pocket and went to town.

In case anyone is interested, P290 6 rounds of 115 gr Hornady CD weights one pound seven ounces. Little bit of useless party info lol

I have been carrying mine in a Uncle Mikes size 12 IWB on my back and you can never see it. the entire reason I got it was because I carry a XDM9 compact which is great during the winter but I have to choose my clothes for it in the summer. Went with the P290 with the laser and I love it. Have only shot 120 rounds so far but with no problems at all and it is a much easier carry.

I am hoping Hogue comes out with some G10 grips like they showed on the wall at the shot show. My Sig 1911 Scorpion came with them and I love them.

I agree I would like to get those grippy side plates OFF, its like having sandpaper next to your skin. Holster pro makes the 508 that keeps your grip away from your skin.. Thinking about that one.

I have an old inner tube from my mountain bike - the rubber is really handy to have around. I found that a section slips right over the grip - just cut it at a appropriate angle to match the grip front to back, clearing the mag release button.

Also, Hogue makes a mini slip on grip cover the works as well.

I'm hello, I'm new to Sigs. I've recently purchased the p290. How can you tell the difference between 1st and 2nd generation p290's?
