P-226 Optical Sights

I just got a Sig Bridge Sight Mount for my 226R and it fits like a glove and feels solid as a rock.
What optical sights would fit nicely with the mount and not be too top heavy or look too out of place?

Would obviously not be for a carry gun, but a mid-range bullseye.

Expect it could be fun with the .22LR upper and a optical type sight system.

Got the Sig Mount off Ebay, brand new reportedly off a Mosquito and un-used.
Boy, if they sold these alone, they'd sell like hotcakes, imho.

Well I would think size would be a major consideration, and then price.

I would think something really small and light like a Burris FastFire would be nice, but I have no experience with it.

Another option would be something like an Aimpoint. Now I know those can be a little expensive so I searched around and got a Vortex Sparc. I was really impressed by this little sight, but I was using it on an AR so Im not sure what your results would be on a hand gun.

I've had an Aimpoint my my AR's...I think it's too big for a 226. They make some smaller ones now...but I'll probably look at some of the "fast fire" smaller models.

A friend of mine - who is also a gunsmith - has a burris fastfire 2 on his glock pistol and it works great according to him. He says he's not a great shot but the burris helps a lot with target acquisition/follow up shots. Not sure if the burris will fit the mount, but worth a look. They run about $200. I just bought a sig tacops 1911 and plan to put a burris fastfire 3 on it ASAP.

I bought a reflex sight for my S&W Stealth Hunter .44 magnum and fired 3 rounds through the pistol and then immediately took the reflex sight off. It just wasn't fun or very effective. The pistol is far out in front of you and the sight is very small, you pretty much have to be lined up before you see the red dot, it was too much chasing of a dot. Iron sights were better and faster.

Reflex sight are a great deal of fun...on a rifle.

I have the same set-up and recently got a Matchdot II with Warne Low Height rings. It barely fits.

I tried it at the range and found two things - It was relatively easy to zero-in, but having this sort of precision aiming device magnifies any faults in your grip and not isolating your trigger finger.

In shooting at 25 ft with CCI SV, I zero'd it for repeatable sub-1 inch groups. Holding the same settings and shooting at 50 ft resulted in groups about 2.5 inches high. This tracks with CCI Ballistic Data from their website about the trajectory of the bullet.

All-in-all, a reasonable bullseye gun for 22 LR, not the same as a Pardini, but pretty good.

I have 9mm and 357 conversion kits backordered with Sig. I really want to see how well I can do with those calibers.

More later.
