I was wondering if carrying a P239 really is easier to carry than a P226. The P239 doesn't really look that much smaller to me. Anyone have a good picture comparison both length & thickness? Opinions? Thanks.

I own both Pistols. The 226 was my duty weapon from the day it was issued to me until I retired; and as such it excelled! I purchased a 239 a few years back and absolutely

love it as well. Both are .40 S&W (12+1 for the 226 & 7+1 for the 239). The 226 is 1/2 pound heavier fully loaded. Open / Duty weapon 226 hands down! CC the P239 is my

pick; smaller, lighter, and fits my hand like it was built for it. A gun is a tool - get the one that does the job you want it to do the best. Be safe, JB

To me there isn't enough difference to matter. I'm a big guy and can more easily conceal a little bit larger gun.The inch difference in the length isn't a problem with the right choice of clothes and if you use an IWB holster it would probably be even easier.

I'm a 40 S&W fan too so I would use to make my decision more than the size issue.

I am with You on the .40 S&W, and the IWB holsters. I personally favor the " Appendix Carry " for comfort, accessibility, and concealability. (Don Hume makes an excellent molded unit & I have Bianchi for the 226 - double snap helps support the additional weight + avoid the Grip sag )

CC breakdown:

Summer Carry - KAHR PM9 (soon to be Sig P290?)

Winter/Cool Weather - SIG P239

Elevated Threat Concern - SIG P226 in a Miami Classic with 2 extra Mags & Cuffs

I love the P239 .40S&W and carry it more than any other, my 2nd most carried is the P250c in .45acp. both IWB Appendix.

For me the extra barrel lenght of a full size can get annoying with that type of carry after a while.

weight is fully loaded

It all comes down to how you carry.

I can carry a full size P220 and Glock 17/22/31 no problem, just as easy as a P239, P250, Glock 26/27/33

Its all about how you carry it.

I carry SOB, 2'oclock, 530 clock, just depends on the gun and my dress.

Biggest thing is no matter what you carry you have to dress to the gun, this isn't a fashion show, we who carry have to go againest that, your tighter fitting shirts and stuff will have to go.

Thanks for the replies. I have a p226, & I can conceal it pretty well but when I scoot down (bending at the knees, not over) it seems the butt if the gun kinda sticks out a bit. I always wear loose fitting shirts. I carry IWB about 3:00-4:00 position. Can't see it when I'm standing & walking. I use a rgrizzle town & country holster. I'm still not sure a p239 would conceal a whole lot better, though I still want one. Maybe I should just wait for the p290.

Well I tried the 2:00 & it was way to uncomfortable for a gun this size. I wore it @ 3:00 again and it worked great. I guess I may have had my belt too loose the 1st time. I dont know but got it to work regardless . I still plan on getting a p290 though. I'll have to get a p239 too , they're pretty sweet.

I just went & put 260 rounds through it , 115 GR UMC mega pack & some 147gr Winchester Supreme elite and a few Golden Sabers 147gr too. Flawless. Not one malfunction. I love this gun. I ran out of time, only got to shoot one mag through my p226. Otherwise it was all P239 today. Sigs rule!

Welcome to the club !! My P239 (40S&W) is hand down my Fav of the SIGS I own (5 at present). Seven friends & I spent 4 hours at a local indoor range last night; and literally had a blast. Paper punching, Pins, and Steel Plates. Then, after breakfast today, 2 hours of gun cleaning / maintenance / and more bonding with the 3 Pistols of mine that got shot. SIGS, Glocks, 1911s, Springfields, HKs, Smiths, Berettas and even my Snakeslayer. I even made enough on side bets to cover all the ammo I burned too. Life is Good, JB
