Hey there everyone. I Purchased my first handgun sig sp2022 .40 and I will be picking it up on Friday. I've been reading up on forums and watching a lot of YouTube videos on how to clean and lube your guns. Since it's a new gun will I have to clean it and lube it or do I just lube it before i start shooting it at the range. Also what are the best oil/lube brands out there? And ive seen a couple of cleaning videos where they use Q-tips to clean out the hard to reach spots. Is it a good or bad idea to use Q-tips? What does everyone use other than Q-tips to get to those hard to reach places?

Congratulations on your new purchase, the sp2022 is a fine gun. It comes with heavy grease applied from the factory, so you will need to clean it and then lube it. I like the Gunslick products, but there are many good ones available. I also like the Teflon brushes for hard to reach places, they look lke a toothbrush.

If I can offer my 2 cents - in all the gun cleaning threads I've read and all the videos I've watched, one thing that seems to be underemphasized is cleaning your magazines. If you use an all-in-one like CLR, don't use it on the inside of the mag - just use some rubbing alcohol as a solvent and wipe it dry. It's okay for use on the spring and the outside, though.

I just bought a used pistol, and was pretty impressed with how clean the gun was overall; but the magazines were filthy.

ps - congratulations - the SP2022 is a fine gun - I have one in 9mm.

congrats i too have the same gun in 40....i use grease on the rails and oil everywhere else...clp will work fine for the oiled parts, buy some grease for the rails, there are several different kinds that will work fine

I use this on the rails and it stays put and works great, plus you can get it at a auto part or hardware store and its not too expensive compared to gun specific grease, midway even sells it under "firearm grease"

Synthetic Multi-Purpose Grease : Grease | Oil | Synthetic Lubricants, SYNCO Chemical Corporation

there are a few decent vids on youtube that demostrate how to do it for that gun

good luck!
