P226 vs p229

Hello, I am a noob to this forum. I have been a CZ 75 and 1911 pistol user and now I am wanting to own a Sig.

I have the choice of either the P229 or P226 in a .40 as I have enough 9MM and I am aware that I can get a 9MM barrel down the road for these models.

My question is which one is better from a performance stand point. I have handled both and they both seem concealable. Yes the P229 is a 1/2 to 1 inch shorter in length, with the correct hoster the P226 is fine in concealment. So that is not an issue also the height is mice balls smaller for the P229 so the size really doesn't matter to me. I am more concerned about accuracy for distance and control. Was the P229 built for the .40? If so would the P229 be more ideal for the .40? Again I am just looking for input on performace.

You seem to be more used to full sized pistols and the P226 doesn't scare you off size wise...in 40 cal they carry the same amount of cartridges on board...get the P226...then again...the P229 is a nice change of pace...but thinking further...you may need both...

I have a 229 in 9mm and love it. Have not had the opportunity to fire one in .40.

To be honest I like them both, but if I had to choose which one I like shooting the most then it would be a slight edge over the P229.

I have both, and the 229 remains my favorite. For me, it fits my hand just slightly better and that translates to being a better shooter for me. Mine has performed flawlessly since 2005.

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania.

You can't go wrong with either. For range work i would get the P226.

I have the P229 and it is fabulous and yes it was designed for the .40 and .357 SIG and the pistol of choice for the Secret Service.

I also have a couple P226s in 9MM.

You really can't go wrong with either. The both are extremely accurate. I picked up my P229 as a CPO for $490 a few years back and it was as new inside and out.

Shhoting my P229 in .40 is like shooting most other pistols in 9MM.

I am leaning toward the P229, but definetly an elite version. I am so used to being able to get my grip way in there with a beavertail. I do feel that the P226 does not really need one but the P229 does. Anyways that is my two cents. I will post pictures once I get it. Should be less than 30 days out.

I have both in 9mm. Love them both but my aging eyes appreciate the sight radius on the 229 a bit more than the 226. I also have a 226 X5 that really challenges my eyes...but the gun is awesome!!!
