Opie, Welcome to the forum from SW Pa. My first recomendation to you if you are looking for something smaller is a P250 Sub-compact. It is similar to the 2022 in its polymer frame but is different in that it is a double action only. The trigger on the P250 functions just like a DA revolver so there is no need for a decocker. It can be carried in a front pocket holster on an ITW holster. The P250 is resonably priced and shoots accurately. The other Sigs that may fit the bill would be a P239 in 9mm (it has a decocker and a single column magazine) or the new P224 in 9mm (it has a decocker and a double stack magazine). All 3 are excellent firearms though each has unique characteristics and qualities. Shawn |

I carry a p250 subcompact in a Crossbreed iwb holster and it is very comfortable. I also just purchased a p290 as another carry pistol because it is smaller than the 250 so easier to conceal in the summer. Like vtwinsrule stated, the 250 is dao as well as the 290 so there is no de-cocker on either.

Hi Opie, Welcome to the forums! I currently carry the Sig P238 with Hydroshock and or Hornady Critical Defense loaded, in a custom holster I made based off the crossbreed. If you are most comfortable with a de-cocker on your sidearm then defiantly go with what vtwinsrule and MOGunGuy suggest. I carry the P238 because I am most familiar with the 1911 style sidearms so the thumb safety is no issue for me. Remember, the best sidearm is what you feel most comfortable with, in hand, firing, and accurate with. Study and test fire before you buy. ( I know I am preaching to the choir lol) |

About a month ago I purchased a P290 after waiting fruitlessly for a Shield 40 S&W. In fact I bought one of the non RS versions. I could not be happier with my choice. It conceals perfectly in my front pocket or IWB holster. I have not experienced light strikes or any of the feared issues with the Sig P290. The only minor drawback is that it is a little difficult to field strip for cleaning at first. It is very well made, easy on recoil and accurate.

I carry a p290rs or a keltec p3at. Both are flawless in operation and both are dao. I carry either in the pocket with a blackhawk I cut up, one to fit each gun, or iwb appendix with a versacarry 2 to fit each gun. The grip, trigger, and recoil of both guns are very similiar (the sig is slightly heavier and longer much like a revolver) so when I practice with one I am kind of practicing with both. The night sights of the sig are dramatically better than the barely existant kt, basically like a standard handgun. They are the best I've used on a gun this small. The loaded sig weighs almost twice as much as the loaded kt which is why it is so reliable and easy to shoot yet just as easy to conceal. The sig is .4 " longer .4" inch higher and .12" thicker. The sig is rated +p+ if that floats your boat.

I assume these are similar to my 2022. I would not feel comfortable carrying with a chambered round and the trigger simply on safety. I like the 2022's decocker, seems better than a saftey as it blocks the firing pin until a full trigger pull. Even better I think I would just not chamber a round, with a full mag, and pull back the slide before firing on the P238 or P290, am I missing something? A guy at the range had a P238, and it looked pretty nice, smaller than the 290 (although not a 9mm) but more expensive..........

I have yet to find a dealer who will let you test fire new guns.

The 239 is identical in operation to the 2022. It is smaller and has an alloy frame. The 238 is a 1911 style, and 250 is a Glock style gun. You will have to move out of the Sig line up to get a smaller gun like you want if the 239 is not what you are looking for. CZ makes a few- the 75 C, P-01, and P- 07. They are about the size of the Sig 239, but are double stack. Then there is the CZ Rami sub compact 9mm. The smallest gun I know of similar to these is the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Carry. I would at least look at one of those before I settled on a Sig 238 or 250. I presently carry a Bersa Thunder 380. I keep the Sig P228 on the night stand by my bed. If I suspect the slightest chance of a problem- I carry the 228. Last edited by brojohn; 08-13-2012 at 11:12 AM. |

The 250 is not a Glock style gun, it has a hammer not a striker. I recently sold my 250 and I will be getting a 239. I will be carrying the 239 or my shield. | |

Opie...ultimately it IS your decision on how to carry but SiGs are totally safe to carry with a cartridge chambered...the decocker is for safely dropping the hammer to the safety intercept notch after the pistol has had it's hammer cocked... Bill |
