New problem with P938

So, I made two trips to the range with my Replacement (Load Jams and FTE's on the first one). Trip one ran flawlessly for 300 mixed rounds. Trip two ran flawlessly for another 250 mixed rounds.

Tonight I take it apart for a clean and check and what do I find (or not find)?http://sigtalk.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

The Recoil Spring Guide rod is MISSING! The Guide rod Seat is there and it appears the rod is threaded into the seat, after 500+ rounds it vibrated loose and must have dropped on the range. I must have shot some rounds with it missing since the spring is pretty bent. It never failed.

Will call Sig for a replacement and will make sure to Loctite it in.

I don't own either the p238 or the p938, I have seriously thought about it but after joining this forum, these guns are definitely NOT on my list of guns to own. I thought Sig was all about "to hell and back reliability", not when a guide rod falls out of a gun....
The only Sigs I will own are the classic P guns. I am hoping the P224 will live up to Sigs reputation, if they actually ever release the dang thing.

Thanks for posting this up.
All of us should check on our guide rods and loctite them.

Keep in mind that forums are always going to have more posts about problems owners have.

Customer Service was great. will ship out a replacement Rod assembly and spring today. They did confirm that they do not Locktite from the factory.

Would be a good idea to check yours.

Why don't they and did they, in fact, recommend that owner's do?

I sent my 938 back to Sig this evening. Along with a feed problem, last night I had my rod go AWOL. Each time I shot the rod came loose. I cleaned and used blue locktite twice including last night. I really wonder why the rod is threaded at all. Why not a one piece rod. Works for 1911s.
Losing the rod bent my new spring Sig had just sent me Friday. That spring measured 4 1/2 inches. My origional spring measured 3 5/8 inches. That is interesting????

Just checked my rod...................... ;^)
and it is so tight that I couldn't get it to turn at all. Makes me wonder if all 938s have two piece guide rods.

Just where is the threaded connection? at the very end where the cup is or ???

Where the rod meets the base. When I first saw my gun the rod was loose and sticking out slightly. As it unscrews, it will stick out beyond the barrel front.
I learned the hard way to keep looking as I shoot.
I thought about chinching tighter but did not want to markup the rod with tool marks.

I took my rod apart yesterday. Took a vise and vise grips as it was full of red loctite. I cleaned the threads and reapplied red loctite. So Sig must have changed the "no loctite" sometime before 8/12 when mine was built.
