938-am I the only one with this problem?

Took the new p938 extreme to the range today, was hoping given the date on the case (9/26) that it would have upgrades done already. Heres an oddity for you though given the born on date, the serial is 52A0024xx. In the thread with post your serial/date/problems there were alot of older pistols than mine with much higher serials, what gives?

Anyway, ran 120rnds through it in this order.

20 Magtech 124gr guardian golds, no FTE, no FTF

50 prvi partizan 115gr no FTE, but I had 15 or so light strikes. You could see a light scratch on the primer, a second try and they would go bang. I attributed this to ammo

This is where it started to get ridiculous though

50 american eagle 124gr, 1 light strike that took 3 tries to fire. Then I had 3 FTE's. The last time it jammed up pretty bad and while clearing it the slide stop lever literally fell out and the slide fell off leaving me holding the frame with a really stupid look on my face

While clearing it I had right hand on the grip, left pinching the back of the slide, magazine ejected and 2 rounds trying to get in the chamber. I was holding it with the slide stop down (grip horizontal to ground) and when I got the jam cleared and released the slide it shot off the other end of the frame because the slide stop had fallen out and I didnt see it.

Now, has anyone heard of the slide stop falling out? I cant find mention anywhere else and I found it very odd. Also the light strikes I found a few mentions but not very many. Finally, what gives with the early serial and the late date?

I have a feeling Sig will be getting a call next week, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if I screwed something up when I cleaned/lubed it when I brought it home originally.

Never had a problem with my 229 and was hoping for the same here

Serial is 52A0024xx so the last 5 are 024xx, and the date on the case is 9/26/12, and as for bitching NOW.....believe me I wish CS was open when I got home from the range

Actually this has been reported on some early models. Seems the slide stop spring in the frame gets bent and does not retain the slide stop well. Easy fix with a replacement spring.

But it shouldn't have happened and I would send it back to Sig ASAP

Seems an odd mix of build date and serial# as the serial number is low at 2400 range but the build date is pretty new.

My Nitron was built 10/12/2012 but has a serial of 13488.

Is this a Nightmare model?

Yeh I know I thought it was an odd combo too. It is an extreme model. Given there are a few that I have seen in that tracking thread with an odd mix, I almost wonder if the date is when they are packaged and not in any correlation to the day they were made? For instance they run off 10,000 pistols with sequential dates and they make them in March (just making up dates & numbers here). If it takes until september to get them boxed & shipped out, are the dates put on the cases a march date (birth date) or a september date (packaged date)?

Only Sig would know. But from the various forum posts it seems that most of the issues with FTE, FTF,FTL happened with pistols built before 8500 or so. Then Sig began to change the extractors, recoil springs, and not sure what else.

Can you take/post a pic of the slide stop spring in the left side of the frame with your slide off ?

My serial number is 52A0205XX and the date on my case is 12 Sep 2012 which is also my actual birth date. LOL The only difference is that I came to this world back in 1967.

My mfg date and serial # seem out of sync too. I called SIG about it and they didn't think it was terribly unusual.

Same Problems Here

I'm definitely not happy with this firearm. I sent my almost new 938 back to Sig after numerous FTEs, FTFs, and a few light strikes. Got it back, and it ran fine with about 100 rounds of American Eagle 124 and PMC 115. I had the same problem with the slide stop almost falling out and locking the slide open. Didn't quite fall out.

Also used 20 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 115 with no problems. Then tried some Double Tap +p 115 and +p 124. Had one in 50 fail to feeds with each.

There's no way I'd ever trust this gun to save my life. Guess I'll call Sig again and see if they'll replace it. I wish I'd opted for the new XDs 9.

Needs the slide stop to be replaced with one that fits the frame a little better in addition to a new spring. Send Badwolf a PM -- she had the same problem and it took Sig 2 tries to fix it. -Rich

mines is a extreme also but born 6/2/2013 ser# 52a0697xx only 9 months apart but our ser#s are 65k apart. assuming they are sequential I'm amazed they put out 65k 938's in 9 months.

Maybe the redesigned 938 started at a much higher ser #

sounds like you may have the older version

Just a thought

I just got a new 938 and have fired about 250 rounds of aquila 115 JHP's
through it with out a single hiccup,My nephew was checking it out before the first round was fired and he pulled the slide back and the slide stop fell out
imagine the expression on my face with a $800.00 gun falling apart.
But when he rolled his hand over I noticed his trigger finger was on the end of the slide stop just as if you were removing it so I think that is what happened.
Just a thought and something to check when your holding the gun.
As far as the other issues I'd contact sig.
