Thank you for any help what so ever.
AL P229s are from the early 2000s. Likely 2001 or 2002. It should be a solid gun but is a little after the sweet period for P229s.

Especially on guns from that time period, the date codes on mags or grip plates really don't tell you anything. They both could have been made 2-4 years before the gun.

Silver sport: serial number is AL 42 ***. And the grips have the numbers 0 2 with the arrow pointing at 11. I haven't experienced any symptoms after a couple hundred rds of some cheaper 124 gr practice ammo. If you can't dig up any additional info about this specific serial number than I'll just assume it's a 2002 model. The owner said it was purchased brand new about 4-5 years ago so that would make sense.

Also, Im wanting to try out the e2 grips on this puppy. I'm assuming they'll fit just fine on this year? Any suggestions for what Ill need/be useful besides what comes in the kit?

Thank you for everyone's time and help so far. If I could do it myself I would, but my limitations end at google.

I already looked on that list but i couldn't find the 42 that came after the AL. So I guess my next question is what would the 42 mean if the serial number read AL 42 ***?

not every sig sold is on those lists, just the ones where folks emailed info to the guy who maintains the list, so you have to interpolate a bit.

Just a clarification. As the title says, the proof date key is for German(-made) Sigs. Almost 100% of the P229s in the U.S. were made here in the U.S. from U.S. made slides and German made frames, even the ones with triple matching serial numbers. The only way to guess the manufacturing date is by the serial # prefix letters, which are not proof date codes, or by looking at the date inside the grips, assuming they are original to the gun.

Also, the date stamped on the side of P6 slides is the proof date for the P6 (they don't have proof date codes for whatever reason) and is a good estimate for the manufacturing date.

On the newer German-made SIGs, the date code is usually found on the left side of the barrel hood rather than the bottom front slide chin so the gun has to be field stripped to see it.

If anyone is still interested in dating your Sig

Found this in another forum:

"If it's a German Sig, there will be a two letter date code, that represents the year of manufacture, stamped on the frame below the muzzle. A=0 / B=1 / C=2 / D=3 / E=4 / F=5 / G=6 / H=7 / J=8 / K=9.

Otherwise you're SOL, unless you can get Sig to cooperate."

My 2003 P226 had the date code (AD) and other proof marks stamped on the side of barrel that could not be seen until the barrel was removed from the slide.

My German-made P226 doesn't have any markings under the muzzle at all. Only on the side, near the serial number. Says DE which is the code for Deutschland, or Germany and not 1934, I'm pretty sure!

However, the serial number being U841xxx, puts the manufacture somewhere around April/May 2009.

Good enough!

P229 with serial : AF114xx. My first used Sig. Anybody chime in please? It's still in gun jail, so I don't have access to it right now.
