I deep-posted on another thread about this (and Jedi5150 was nice enough to respond). I just bought a new M11A1 and when getting it home, I noticed that it had P229 grips instead of P228 grips (which is what it's supposed to have).
Yes, the gun is "more" P229 than P228, but the whole point is that this is supposed to be "true-er" to the military M11. And that means P228 grips. It's what every picture of the M11 online is wearing.
Anyone else have the same thing - an M11 with P229 grips? If so, I can relax. If not, I need to deal with the dealer here ASAP. This gun was the floor model (other location had several other M11s that all had P228 grips) and I'm going to swap out unless someone says theirs is the same. On a almost $1000 gun, the external stuff should be correct (and not create doubt about the internal stuff being incorrect too). You wouldn't buy a Corvette with a Camero badge on it, right?
Thanks, everyone. I'm going to call Sig in the morning, but my guess is that they have run out of P228 grips or no longer manufacture them.
In fact, on the Sig parts site - they have the P229 grips shown for the P228/229 part. You can't seem to order P228 grips that say P228 any more (they say P229).
The P229 and P228 grips are identical except for the last number. With that said, I'd prefer the P228 grip myself but it wouldn't surprise me if this was a running change at SIG. Where did you purchase this one from?
Originally when the M11-A1 came out it had P228 grips.
If you really want the P228 grip plates they are available here. 228 SIG. Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts
All my Sigs wear G10 or aluminum.
G10s just feel better.
If Sig really did quit producing 228 grips, put an ad up here.
There was a guy here looking for 220-9mm heel release grips, because a shade tree smith had screwed his up.
He has mine now because my 220-9mm wears aluminum.
First, no make that the second thing that went on my M11A1, the sticker was first, were the grips. replaced with Hogue g10's. PM me with your location and I'll send you the 228 grips from my M11A1.
Very generous Sugerwater! By the way, I pulled off my UID label immediately as well.
I'm on hold right now calling SIG customer service on something unrelated. I'll ask them about the P228 grips when I get through to an agent.
Edited to add; Adam must have beat me to it. The customer service rep told me I was the second person to ask him that question this morning. Hahaha. He said he would check with his supervisor, but he was not personally aware that SIG had ever shipped an M11A1 with P229 grips.
UPDATE: First off, you guys rock. All of you. I am super-new to this forum and have found all of you to be super-helpful. I hang out in a lot of firearm forums but none has shown the hospitality to the new guy like you have shown me. Thank you.
And sugarwater - what can I say? Your offer is so generous. I think I am ok for now - read the update below:
Spoke to Sig customer service this morning (guess I just beat you Jedi). Yes this was an error. And Ryan the rep said that they would be sending me the replacement grip in the mail. The part is backordered so it might be a few weeks, but that's all I needed to hear before going out to the range and shooting the heck out of my new M11!
So, I'm still guessing mine was a Monday/Friday gun and the gunsmith juts grabbed something from the wrong part bin. Let's hope everything else is aok. I'm sure it is.
Again, thanks everyone and I will give a range report soon...

That explains it.
Sig put 229s on because they were out of stock. They still had orders to fill, and some would never notice. It has happened before in other models here.
Sig puts out individual guns a lot.
Hogue grips will fit the 228 and 229; they actually list them that way IIRC. The E2 one piece grip should fit your pistol as well. If you go that route, be sure to get the installation tool with them and be careful not to dislodge/bend the decocker spring or trigger bar spring when mounting and dismounting the grip.
