| P290 feed problem
I purchased a P290 (not the RS, didn't know the difference beforehand) on Monday. I took it to the range Tuesday and put 50 rounds through it. The gun fired great. Very accurate, no misfires, no stovepipes. The problem I'm having is loading that first round into the chamber. Often the cartridge would hang up when I would go to rack the first round into the chamber. Has anyone else had this issue? Should I try a different brand of ammo? I was using Remington. After 4 or 5 rounds hanging up the next one would go in fine. After that no problems. |

Are you using the 8 rd mag? Was the gun purchased new or is it a used gun. If it was used and you know the seller how many rds have been fired throught it?

The gun is new and it happens with both mags. So far I have put 150 rounds through it. The chambering problem happens about 50% of the time. Eric |

Did you clean and lube it well before taking it out the first time? | |

Strangely enough, my P938 has a problem chambering the first round out of the mag when I use the slide release. If I ride the slide a little it works every time. Never had that issue before, usually quite the opposite. But it is still a very new gun. And yes, I completely cleaned and then greased/oiled the gun before and after my one and only trip to the range so far.

SigNewbie, yes try some different ammo and it wouldn't hurt to hand polish the feed ramp of the barrel and even the feed guides in the frame (whatever they are called, the bullet slides over them on the way to the barrel's feed ramp. I use Flitz metal polish and a felt Dremel bit at medium-low speed to do that sort of thing. Just a little polish, you don't want to spray it everywhere. Then clean the gun, grease the slides and other parts, oil the parts that need oil, and I bet you have much success.

Thanks for the ideas. I will have to dig out my Dremel and try polishing the feed ramp. Hopefully that will help. I really don't want to send the gun back to Sig. Eric |

If you use a Dremel be very careful.
