| P250 Slide not locking back with empty magazine
Purchased a P250 Compact 9mm from Academy early Jan 2013. No ammo available so had to order online. So while waiting for ammo to arrive I cleaned the pistol and would operate the slide on occasion. About a week later I pulled the slide back and it did not lock with the magazine inserted. I checked online and found a few threads on the slide not locking and some said the magazine was the issue. I called Sig customer service and the rep said he would send me a new grip assembly. I asked if this is a known problem and he said no, but it was his best guess. I mentioned I had seen some online threads that mentioned the magazine was the problem and he did not think so. I later noticed if I pushed up slightly on the bottom of the mag the slide locked every time. I then purchased a new 15rd mag and when I tried it locked every time. I took both magazines apart and found the problem was very obvious. The spring in the original 15rd mag was much shorter than the new one I purchased. See pictures attached. This is so blatantly obvious I can't believe Sig does not know about this problem. I called back and explained the issue and they want me to send back the original magazine and they will replace it. I asked if they would like to see the pictures and he did not. I also asked if this was a known issue and he said not to his knowledge. I don't think I believe him. |

It sure looks like the wrong spring; maybe for a 12 or 10 round mag. The base plate on the short one looks different from that on the long one (and those on my 250 mags) or maybe it's just the angle in the pic. My guess is it was a mixup in assembly at Mec-Gar; wouldn't expect that it's a common problem though. |

The insert on the short spring looks different from that on the long spring. Could this be the insert for a "limited" mag (Calif. 10 round capacity in a 15 round tube)? I've never seen one myself. Maybe someone was assembling 10 round limited mags but grabbed a full cap tube.

I measured the spring in the 10 rnd mag from my 2022. It's pretty close to the short spring above. Has the same style plate too.

the bottom spring appears to be from the 250 subcompact

| That could be; length is about right. I looked at my 15 and 12 round P250 compact and subcompact mags (9mm) and all the inserts are the same and look like the long spring in this photo. Not sure what the other is from.

Academy? Two Sigs on the counter. Two slides on the counter. Slides get swapped? Very possible.

| Not sure about the one that came with the pistol (shorter spring). They both have Sig Sauer P250 and Made in Italy on the side. The only difference is the one that came with the pistol has holes that indicate how many rounds in the magazine on the slim (primer) side. It has 14 holes starting with #2. Also has holes on the side 5,10, and 15. The one I purchased that has the longer spring does not have the 14 holes on the primer side. It also has plastic base attached to the spring where the short spring has a metal base on the spring. The box I purchased the long spring mag is attached.
