Sig P2022 40 S&W, about to buy, are these reliable?

I'm about to buy a new car gun, something cheap. This is at Academy, It is prob an American made model.

Have the reliability problems been solved?

Has there been a reliablility difference between the 9mm and 40?

Thanks in advance

Welcome from california. My EDC is the 2022 in 40 and has been completely reliable through 2,500 rounds.

Since i'm not familiar with modern Sig pistols, I'm an HK man.. But HK doesn't make an under 500 car gun.

I know that in the past, American made Sigs had reliability problems, is that still the case?

Mine is all German with proof marks and the Ilaphon finish. My understanding is that the all American nitron finish 2022's, are just as reliable.

I have one in 9mm and one in .40. Both are American and have been flawless through about a 1000rds combined. They've been more reliable than my glocks.

Mine is made in America (Exeter, NH) and I have yet to have any failures of any kind. Very smooth accurate easy to shoot pistol.

There's a reliability problem? When it happens I'll be sure to let you know, 1000 + rounds since christmas, not one failure to feed, fire, or eject. I love my sig so much I sold my glock and went and put another sig on layaway today.

I just took my .40 to the range today for the first time after I picked her up yesterday. Ran flawlessly with 4 different types of ammo.

135gr Corbon Pow'r'Ball
165gr Federal Hydra-Shok
165gr Winchester FMJ
165gr Winchester PDX-1

Ran like a dream...

I have a SP2022 9mm Parabellum also, around 1200-1500 rounds through it so far since October when I picked it up and zero malfunctions. It's a great weapon. I would advise you to consider the 9mm over the 40 for availability and affordability of the ammunition.

Of course....just came back from Wally World a few mins ago and their ammo cases are pretty much cleared out except for some shotgun shells and lesser-used calibers.

All in all, SP2022 is an awesome weapon, very balanced, and mine came with an extra pistol grip for free. It's super easy to break down, clean and reassemble quickly.

You should see a price of around $430 + or - depending on your area for the 9mm version.

Well guys, I went and bought the 2022 at Academy for 459.99.. I disassembled and lubed, it clearly doesn't have the fit and finish of my HK's BUT for an under 500 dollar gun, it's fine, on par with Glock and XD. I just can't stand striker fired pistols.

It will make a great House and Car gun for me
