| P290-RS concerns
I absolutely love my P226. So, a few months ago when looking for something more suitable for CC, the P290-RS seemed like a great option. We've put a few hundred rounds through it and I'm not super impressed. First, those grips are horrible. I understand the idea that rough grips help you hold the gun, but it gets sore real fast. I'm used to my P226 with rubber Hogue grips that is comfortable and fun to shoot. I honestly don't enjoy shooting the P290, mostly due to the grips. I usually wear gloves when using it at range, which helps some, but I wish it wasn't necessary. I know there's talk of replacement grips, but haven't seen anything available yet. The laser seems rather worthless. Not that I need or even want it on a CC gun, but thought I would mention it. I do have issues with light strikes every time I go to range with it, even with using different varieties of ammo. Typically 1 out of every 15-20 rounds. I also find the trigger to be much more difficult to pull than my other guns. For a CC/defense piece, I worry about how easily/quickly I could get off a shot when needed. When you mix that with concern over light strike, I don't see it as a good CC candidate right now. Slow pull with LS at wrong moment could be very bad. I really want to love this gun. If it weren't for these issues I could see myself really liking it, but so far the combined problems prohibit that. After as much as I love my P226 and how enjoyable it is, I was very disappointed with the P290-RS. I know many people seem to be having same problems with it. I've seen many posts of people repeatedly sending them back to Sig for repair with no real solutions or fixes. So, I'm wondering if anyone has had good results with Sig fixing these problems on the P290-RS? Is it worth even sending it in to have them look at it? Or should I just keep it locked in my safe and hope they come up with something? Should I ditch it for something else? Does anyone have any suggestions for something similar size (prefer 9mm) that may actually be fun and worry free to shoot, but effective for CC? Thanks in advance for your responses. |

I had magazine and slide lock back issues. I wanted this to be the perfect small carry/back up gun, but its no good if its not 100% reliable. I have moved on to another brand and the sig is in my safe. The only other sig I owned was a p232 that was perfect except for the caliber. |

I have never had any issues with my P290RS. As to the grip it is a micro pistol and as such has an an abreviated grip to accomodate its small size. Thus many small pistols are not fun to shoot hundreds of rounds thru. I am NOT a fan of laser aimers and do not use them at all. Trying to compare the P226 to the P290RS IMHO comparing apples to oranges. The only similarity is the manufacturer and caliber. EVERYTHING else is different due to the different missions they were designed for. Last edited by Longitude Zero; 01-21-2013 at 10:53 AM. |

I agree the lasers on most guns are useless in my opinion. As far as the grips, I to hated them when I wore inside the waist band it would really irratate my skin. Bought a set of tractiongrips Tractiongrips and that solved the problem. Put them on and let them sit for 48 hrs and they stay where you put them. As far as light strikes, send it back to sig they will correct it.

I just traded my p938 for a p290. I bought the p 938 because it looked cool and I liked the way it felt in my hand. At first I had no issues then the ejector had issues and then it fired with the safety on. So I got my money for it and I bought the p290. The lazer is a novelty but its function and accuracy were better than expected. I was able to get 4 in groups at 40 ft after my first mag. I put 100 rounds through it this afternoon, no issues what so ever...knock on wood ill keep you all posted. I am very happy with my p290.

I have had no issues at all with my 290RS. 200 Rounds through it, no failures of any kind (except the shooter) First of all, at first the grips were too much for me, but after a lot of dry firing I have gotten used to them, and actually appreciate how rough they are. This brings me to my second point, through the dry firing I have gotten pretty good with the long DAO trigger pull. It takes a bit to get used to but with no other safety it gives me piece of mind. Also, once you get used to it; it is fine. Last, yeah the laser sucks but that is to be expected. Its a novelty but oh well, I didn't buy the gun because of the laser. |

I to have had no problems with my P290RS it functions and shoots great. I find the trigger to be like any or many other pocket guns. One thing about the trigger is it is very easy to stage which makes it very accurate for me, almost like a double action revolver. It has that two stage trigger pull. I have a Laser on my Bodyguard 380 and I like it, never seeing it being used much but I like it, would have preferred night sights instead but I am sure as popular a gun as it is some one will make a three dot night site for it yet for the BG380 but the Sig has them so really no need for the laser right now.
